Got to agree that Return Of The Mack is a tune. I shall have to see if that Brits performance in YouTube.
Something that never really went away- look at Kanye West! Though I think Taylor Swift had the last laugh there, becoming more successful than he ever was after him infamously snatching the mic off her at the MTV awards.
Thats nothing new. Even into the 90s people had a 'telephone voice'.
I remember my old Mum back in the 80's and 90's when answering the phone would do so in an accent practically posher than the Queens. "six seven, four nine too seven, whooo's speaking please?" And if it was someone she knew the accent would immediately revert to "Eeee, how are yuh? A'h haven't heard from you in yonks"
It always made me laugh.

Wasn't shown as part of the original BBC4 run, then gets shown twice in the space of a few months.
Oh hang on a minute.....
***checks watch ****
You know what time it is - in 1996 it meant only one thing......
11.30 - diet coke break !!
- I generally like minimalist performances but I think Sarah Dubstar was taking things to extremes
- Baby D, the Nightcrawlers and the Bucketheads had clearly run out of ideas by this point
- Tori Amos must have killed her back playing the harpsichord and piano in that awkward stoop (or maybe she just wanted to stick her backside out)
- The offerings from Eternal and 3T are nice enough in my book but owe most of their success to being a comforting sound in winter
- I'm surprised George Michael didn't haul the 'Change Your Mind' writers straight into court on a plagiarism case to try to win back some of his Sony losses
- I concur with everyone who took shots at Jas Mann because he really turned into the most appalling egomanic on the back of 'Spaceman's success; I'm sure I remember him likening himself to David Bowie at the time
- It's been a fair while since we've heard a vocal performance on the show as lousy as the one from the Goldbug lady - but the actual recording of 'Whole Lotta Love' is a good pump-up song
- The appearances of Gene, Shed Seven and Skunk Anansie are an early indication of Britpop spreading itself out in 1996
- and finally, my favourite song from the four episodes was probably the Cher one - but my actual favourite from the whole of January '96 is one we didn't see, namely the vocal version of Leftfield's 'Release The Pressure' which entered at 13 in the third week of the year.
Can't wait to see how "I Wanna Be a Hippy" goes down on here

Disco At The BBC was only on last weekend (Midnight on BBC2 early hours of Sunday 12th May). Why has that come around again so soon, albeit on a different BBC channel? I know there is a More Disco At The BBC (or similar title), why not show that instead
"Inspired" by Technohead where the best advice would be to bag it up & pop it in the bin, bizarrely this version is more endearing!

I've just watched that. Shocking and disgusting! What a nasty piece of sh*t he is it seems. Vile individual.
Time will tell, but it doesn't-look good
The second of 2 shows presented by Lee Evans - we previously saw him in November 1995.
QFX were a dance act from Hawick in Scotland and formed by producer Kirk Turnbull.
Everytime You Touch Me was the first of 5 top 40 hits, however this was their only appearance on Top of the Pops.
The song Everytime You Touch Me was written by Moby - his version got to number 28 a year ago - this version by QFX entered and peaked at 22.
Does that mean we'll be missing him... Is it around now that he rips off the Police?
I never quite fo the appear myself
