WPIAL Establishes 2024 Baseball Championships presented by the Pittsburgh Pirates Brackets

Mt. Lebanon (Class 6A), West Allegheny (Class 5A), Belle Vernon (Class 4A), Riverside (Class 3A), Serra Catholic (Class 2A), and Union (Class 1A) received the top seeds in their classifications

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) set its brackets in six classifications for the 2024 WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Baseball Championships presented by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday morning, with the championship games set for May 28-29 at Wild Things Park.
 
A total of 77 teams between the six classifications qualified for the WPIAL Baseball Championships, and the tournaments start on Tuesday, May 14 with first-round contests in Class 1A, Class 2A, and Class 3A. Teams punched their tickets to the postseason by finishing inside the top four of their respective sections following the regular season.
 
In Class 6A, Pine-Richland (16-4, 10-2) won Section I and Mt. Lebanon (16-4, 13-2) took Section II. Class 5A saw a four-way tie in Section I between Penn-Trafford (15-3, 9-3), Fox Chapel (14-5, 9-3), Plum (13-7, 9-3), and Franklin Regional (12-7, 9-3), a two-way deadlock between West Allegheny (15-3, 7-3) and North Hills (12-4-1, 7-3) in Section III, and Bethel Park (13-6-1, 7-3) win in Section II. The Class 4A section champions were Montour (13-5, 9-1) in Section I, Belle Vernon (13-3, 9-1) in Section II, Thomas Jefferson (17-2, 9-1) and West Mifflin (16-2, 9-1) sharing Section III, and North Catholic (13-4, 9-1) in Section IV.
 
Class 3A saw Riverside (13-1, 11-1) win Section I, South Allegheny (15-4, 9-1) emerge from Section II, Valley (16-4, 9-3) top Section III, and Mt. Pleasant (13-4, 11-1) bring home Section IV. In Class 2A, Burgettstown (11-3-1, 11-1) won Section I, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (16-4, 13-1) bested the Section II field, and Serra Catholic (15-1, 12-0) went unbeaten in Section III. The Class 1A section champions were Fort Cherry (12-3, 10-2) in Section I, Union (13-3, 12-0) in Section II, and Eden Christian Academy (14-4, 12-0) in Section III.
 
The top two teams in Class 6A, top three teams in Class 1A, Class 2A, and Class 5A, and the top four teams in Class 3A and Class 4A will advance to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Baseball Championships, which begin with first round games on Monday, June 3 and conclude with all championship games on June 13-14 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on the campus of Penn State University.
 
Mt. Lebanon (Class 6A), Shaler (Class 5A), Hopewell (Class 4A), Riverside (Class 3A), Seton LaSalle (Class 2A), and Bishop Canevin (Class 1A) enter the tournament as their respective classifications' reigning champions.
