Thomas Worthington's Katie Niven is OSU Wexner Medical Center Athlete of Week
In a vote that ended May 10, Dispatch.com readers selected the The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center high school Athlete of the Week for competitions that took place from before May 5.
This week's winner is Thomas Worthington softball player Katie Niven.
Niven threw a no-hitter and for the week had a 0.00 ERA and 0.42 WHIP. As a hitter, she had an on-base-percentage of .700 and slugging percentage of 1.000, scored 7 runs and stole 3 bases.
Niven received 50.1% of the vote and was followed by Hilliard Darby softball player Bella Nelson, who had 29.4%, Teays Valley softball player Morgan Cantrell (9.9%), Pickerington Central lacrosse player Faith Osborn (4.7%), Pickerington North track and field athlete Mia Eberhardt (3%), Pickerington North track and field athlete Panashe Chavi (1.7%) and Dublin Coffman track and field athlete Kylie Feeney (1.4%).
In six games last week, Nelson batted .500 (11 for 22) with six singles, four doubles, a home run and seven RBIs. Had an .818 slugging percentage and a .522 on-base percentage.
Cantrell is hitting .438 with a .906 slugging percentage, .532 on-base percentage, 1.439 OPS and 58.44 quality at-bat percentage and his hitting .520 with runners in scoring position. She has 25 hits, nine singles, nine doubles, three triples, five home runs and 19 RBIs. Against Circleville she had a double and three total bases. Against Fairfield Union she had eight total bases and a double and home runs in back to innings. Homered against Hamilton Township and Amanda-Clearcreek. Defensively she has 28 put outs and a 964% fielding percentage.
Osborn had 12 goals, six assists, six draw controls, one caused turnover and four ground balls in wins over Westerville Central and Dublin Scioto.
Eberhardt set a school record (11:21.45) in the 3,200.
Chavi set a school record (15-8) in the pole vault.
Feeney ran 57.15 to break Abby Steiner’s program record (57.21) in the 400 meters.
