Vaughn Vertigo Reflects On Working Through A Hernia Injury

Vaughn Vertigo reflects on wrestling through a hernia.

In early 2023, Vaughn Vertigo would tour Europe in an excursion from his native Canada. However, he was not 100% during this run, as he was dealing with a hernia.

While speaking to Fightful's Corey Brennan about the injury and working through it, Vaughn noted that the hernia was discovered when he went under the knife to remove his appendix.

"It kind of came down to a timing circumstance where I guess it was December 2022, I was feeling sick and I went to the hospital and they're like, oh, your appendix is rupturing when you take it out i'm like oh great okay um so when can i wrestle? They're like oh in four weeks or so. Okay, that's fine. It's December. There's not much going on um i come up, like i wake up from the surgery and they're like uh did you know you have this inguinal hernia? Like, did you ever notice this? I'm like, what? No, I don't know what you're talking about. They're like, yeah, you have this like a guineal groin hernia. I was like, huh? I just woke up from surgery and now you tell me I need another surgery. They're like, yeah, we could have we could have like fix this up during the appendix surgery. But obviously you couldn't consent to it because you're out. I'm like, oh, well, what's the recovery on doing that kind of surgery? They're like about six weeks. I'm doing the math in my head, and I'm like, shit, in six weeks, I'm going to WXW, and I'm going to OTT, and all these the majority it was okay uh because the thing with the hernia at least what I had is that the longer you're standing up the more you're around the more it kind of protrudes so I did the first couple matches in Canada it was okay, in February the hernia wouldn't go back in place so I had to go to the hospital and they had to sedate me and put it back in place and then i'm looking at my schedule and i have like seven flights and i'm like, oh man, it's gonna be not a good, this isn't a good idea. But at the same time, like I worked for this, like I needed to go do it, so I went and then it got worse while I was here because of, you know, when you're in Europe, there's so much walking and so much traveling and i'm lifting my luggage upstairs and all this stuff but i got through it, I didn't die."

Vertigo is scheduled to challenge for the NLW Championship this Sunday at OTT Spankdown where he will go one on one with NLW Champion Renzo Rose.

Elsewhere in the same interview, Vaughn discussed Renzo's stipulation that only non-Irish talent can challenge for his championship. You can read more about that here.
