'Pakistan connection' uncovered in Ahmedabad school bomb threats
The police have discovered a link to Pakistan in the recent bomb threat emails sent to multiple schools in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The emails, initially traced back to a Russian domain, were later connected to a military cantonment in Pakistan. "The emails were traced back to an individual, Tohik Liyakat, who was operating under the name Ahmed Javed," stated Sharad Singhal, Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP), Ahmedabad Crime Branch.
Threatening emails received on eve of Lok Sabha polls
The emails were received by 14 schools in Ahmedabad on May 6, a day before the Lok Sabha polls in Gujarat. Some of these institutions functioned as polling stations for the ongoing elections. Singhal confirmed that despite thorough searches, no suspects or explosives were found at any of the schools. Days ago, Ahmedabad police commissioner G S Malik told TOI that the sender identified himself as "Tauheed Warrior" and warned of attacks by "Istishhadi" (martyrdom seekers) across the city.
Threats aimed at establishing Sharia law in Gujarat
The email message expressed an intent to establish sharia law in Gujarat and threatened violence against those who resisted. "Tauheed's warriors will kill all those who resist our goal to establish sharia law in Gujarat," reads the message. This incident follows a similar occurrence earlier this month in Delhi, where over 100 schools received threat emails. Later, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an official statement, deeming the emails a "hoax" and urging the public not to panic.
