John T. Evans OBITUARY

EVANS John T. Ph.D., Captain, U.S.N.R., Of Newtonville, January 6, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Mary (Sjobeck). Devoted father of Pamela Vaughan of Newton, Albert E. and his wife Linda of Reading, PA. He is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. John Evans was born on February 13, 2015 in Columbus, Ohio, a son of Clara M (Templar) and John Ellis Evans. John grew up in Ames, Iowa and attended Yale University, graduating in 1937. He joined the U.S. Navy shortly thereafter and served as an officer on destroyers in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. After the war, he moved to the Naval Reserve and attended Harvard University where he earned his Ph.D. He continued to serve the military as a Clinical Psychologist at The Chelsea Naval Hospital from 1949 until the hospital closed in 1973. Captain Evans retired from The Navy in 1975. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow member of the Newton Lions Club for more than 50 years. Family and friends will gather in the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington Street, (Route 16), WEST NEWTON for visiting hours, Saturday, January 10, from 1:00 P.M. – 2:30 P.M. followed by a Funeral Service in St. John’s Episcopal Church, 297 Lowell Avenue, Newtonville, 02460 at 3:00 P.M. Interment in the Veteran’s National Cemetery, Bourne MA. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made in John’s memory to St. John’s Church.
