Ranjan Mukherjee has been named associate dean for faculty and administrative affairs at the Michigan State University College of Engineering.
He is the Martin J. Vanderploeg Endowed Chair and a professor of Mechanical Engineering in MSU Engineering.
As the first to hold this new leadership position, Mukherjee will have college-level responsibility for a significant share of administrative operations, faculty affairs and academic personnel matters, and a transition plan for oversight of physical infrastructure, all in coordination with the college’s inclusion and diversity efforts.
He also will serve as the college liaison to the Office of Vice Provost and Associate Vice President for Faculty and Academic Staff Affairs and other university-level units.
Mukherjee begins his new role on May 16, 2024.
Engineering Dean Leo Kempel said he is very pleased to welcome Mukherjee to the college leadership team.
“Ranjan has contributed to our college in significant ways, and we look forward to the administrative support he will provide as we strive to fulfill our teaching, research and service missions,” Kempel added.
Mukherjee received his B.Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and his master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He started his academic career at the Naval Postgraduate School and joined Michigan State University in 1996.
His teaching and research interests lie in the area of dynamics, controls, and robotics. At MSU, he has served the Department of Mechanical Engineering as the associate chair for graduate studies and interim department chair.
He was a member of the executive committee of the ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Division and is currently completing a five-year term as the editor-in-chief for the ASME Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement and Control.
