Distance between their camp and the bunker?

I'm currently more than halfway through season 2 and I can't help but notice this small plot hole. When locke and Boone go out to first find the bunker, they said the hike to get there was long and that noone would hike in through the forest that far. I think it was emphasized that the bunker was far but now that everyone knows about the bunker it's seems they're going to and from the bunker and camp easily?

Same thing with the distance between their beach camp and the cave camp. Initially it was like they had to walk hours to get there but now everyone is going from one place to another without much effort?

It could be that them commuting is not shown much but even hurley who's fat and struggled when first reaching the camp from the beach is now regularly moving here to there. Is there anything explicitly stated about the distance or am I missing something here?

We can easily reconciliate this apparent discrepancy. The 2 instances you mention (Cave and Hatch discovery) where done at the very beginning of the show i.e. recently after the crash. Our Losties were yet not familiar with the overall topography of the island.

For the Hatch location; Locke and Boone were following a long trail for a long time. The length of the trail doesn't necessarily mean it's a straight long line from the beach. It could've been a twisted path that went in long circles and bends and curves that lead to a location not too far from the beach. That location wasn't yet clear to Locke, as to the actual distance from the caves or beach. He assumed that they were far since they walked all day. Add to it, that it was night time. So even less proper orientation and geolocation. It turned out that their location wasn't too far from their base camp. Probably an hour or 30 minutes or so walking distance from the beach.

Same for the caves. Jack wasn't walking in a straight line. In fact he had no idea where he was going. At the end, he was just following the "ghost" of his dead father, who could've been moving in a zigazag or bent curve path or whatever. And at the end, the cave exact location wasn't that far from the beach.

Yeah I guess they also got used to walking as well. There were possible explanations in my head as well but it just felt weird every time I saw them going back and forth so I posted about it here.

Completely irrelevant but I can’t get over that you call it the bunker and not the hatch.

Is it called something different in foreign language maybe?

I never understood why people including our Losties kept calling it the Hatch in the first place. Sure at the beginning, Locke uncovered a Hatch in the ground. But later on, they discovered a whole bunker underground. It was no longer just a hatch!.

Hatch Meaning in Dictionary: 《 noun Also called hatchway. an opening, usually rectangular, in the deck through which passengers can pass, cargo can be loaded or unloaded, etc. the cover over such an opening. an opening that serves as a doorway or window in the floor or roof of a building. the cover over such an opening.》

It is difficult to live, eat and sleep in a doorway! But it is easily done in a Bunker!

Lol no. It is a bunker and I've seen too many shows with bunkers I guess so that's why I don't refer to it as the hatch.

"Too many" shows with bunkers? What are some others?

Supernatural. The 100, and a more recent one I saw 2 weeks ago fallout.

Those are Vaults - not bunkers!

You should check ‘LOST Journeys’ by u/Choekaas!

Thanks! But I'm probably going to hold out until I finish for any discussions and completely hide this sub from my feed lmao. Saw a tiny spoiler and clicked back as soon as I could so better be careful now.

They mention early on it’s about a mile to the caves. I’m sure the first time they found it that it took a while. Presumably they made a more clear path and it became faster to travel.

Also, it’s a tv progrum. A movie. Sometimes you break my heart AJ.

In season 5 episode 1 someone (probably juliet?) said 15 minutes. Maybe they found a shortcut eventually.
