Check out the first official teaser trailer for "Dope Girls," the upcoming historical British drama series that follows the rise of one woman from working-class wife to the city's most notorious criminal.

Boasting a strong ensemble cast led by Julianne Nicholson (Mare of Easttown), Umi Myers (Bob Marley: One Love), Eliza Scanlen (Sharp Objects), Eilidh Fisher (The Power), Sebastian Croft (Heartstopper), Rory Fleck Byrne (Harlots), Nabhaan Rizwan (Station Eleven), Dustin Demri-Burns (Slow Horses), and Geraldine James (Silo), the series delves into the origins of London's underworld, circa 1918.

In the six-part series, Julianne Nicholson portrays a British woman profoundly impacted by the harsh realities of World War I. Faced with the economic downturn and societal upheaval that follows the war's end, she transforms herself into an underground nightclub owner, establishing a hub of illicit activities that include organized crime, prostitution, gambling, and drug smuggling.

As Nicholson's character ascends the ranks of London's criminal underworld, she finds herself at odds with Eliza Scanlen's character, a young female police officer who infiltrates the nightclub scene undercover, determined to bring her to justice.

Dubbed the female counterpart to the acclaimed series "Peaky Blinders," "Dope Girls" is executive produced by showrunners Polly Stenham (co-writer of Nicolas Winding Refn's "The Neon Demon") and Alex Warren along with Kate Crowther and Jane Tranter of "Bad Wolf" productions, and Michael Lesslie, co-writer of "The Little Drummer Girl."

Based on the historical book "Dope Girls: The Birth of the British Drug Underground" by Marek Kohn, the series promises to deliver a compelling portrayal of the birth of London's underworld and the extraordinary journey of one woman as she navigates a world of crime, ambition, and danger.

"Dope Girls" makes its debut later this year on the BBC.
