EUGENE, Ore. – One of Greenhill Humane Society’s biggest fundraisers is coming up in about two weeks, with the 31st annual ‘Bark in the Park’ event scheduled for May 19 at Alton Baker Park in Eugene.

Greenhill officials said that they set a goal this year of raising $100,000 to help care for more than 5,000 animals in 2024. Events scheduled at this year’s ‘Bark in the Park’ include a 2K, 5K, and 10K run or walk and canine activities along with vendors’ booths, food trucks, demonstrations, contests, prizes, and more, the organization said. Greenhill said that runners and walkers can participate individually, with or without a dog, and start or join a team. All of the proceeds raised go toward helping the animals, staff said. Greenhill staffers said that pre-registration for the event is open until May 18 is $35 and includes a doggie bandana or $50 with a doggie bandana and a t-shirt for humans. Kids 12 years and under are free to register and may purchase a t-shirt, staff said.

“Bark in the Park is one big party for pups and their people! Rain or shine, this event is always so much fun and filled with lots of smiles and dog kisses,” said Sarah Bouzad, Greenhill’s community engagement and events manager. “Regardless if you are interested in running or walking in the races, or even have a dog to bring, as an animal-lover you are invited! This is one of Greenhill’s biggest fundraisers and we hope to raise much-needed funds to care for the vulnerable pets in Lane County.”
