I never knew he was so closely involved in the creative process. That’s just awesome.
My God watching his section on Splinter Cell was just beautifully painful. He LITERALLY created Sam Fisher through the rewrites. He brought that humanity himself, and it's just astounding and eerily badass to watch him utterly tear down Eric Johnson, seemingly rightfully so. I've often wondered if Ironside begrudgingly acknowledged Sam with an annoyed, "yeah, I voiced him, so what?" But it seems clear now that he hates where Sam has gone as a character, compared to where he started. Sam has become the generic one note GI Joe action hero that Ironside hated and rewrote, and Ironside seems like he's really trying to bring that humanity back while still operating under Ubisoft's oppressive thumb, creatively speaking. I've spent a long-time on a lot of comments and conversations defending Johnson's Blacklist portrayal and blaming the script, but it's clear that Johnson fucked that up himself and I appreciate Ironside not letting that slide. It's one thing to try and make a character yours while still honoring the original source material, and perhaps in another timeline Johnson MAYBE could have been a great younger prequel Sam...maybe; but to have the mantle personally passed down onto you by someone who's literally known you since you were a child and who actually created that character, only to proverbially spit in their face in response? Nah, you fucked up, son.
I hope someone passes this on to Johnson and says "Ironside knew you from infancy, eh?"
So Eric Johnson wanted to play Sam his way....well that explains everything.
His own ego got in the way and effectively killed the series...joy. It also seemed like that if they didn't do motion capture for Blacklist that Ironside would have still been apart of it.
Back then Ironside didn't voice Sam in Blacklist because he was fighting cancer.
And Ironside did some motion capture for the Sam Fisher DLC in Ghost Recon Wildlands. However I don't know if his health condition would still allow to do it today. However the devs can still separate mocap from voice acting, I guess it takes more time and more work to do so but it's possible.

It's interesting to learn that he took inspiration from his character Ham Tyler in the V series to create Sam Fisher.
And he's right at 39:00 about Eric Johnson, that actor dropped the ball and fucked up Sam. And the way he didn't want to listen to Ironside advices shows how cocky he was back then (hopefully he changed now).
Is Michael confirming that Netflix is currently shooting a SC in South Africa? I know that something was being filmed but I hadn't heard about it in a couple years.
Yeah that's intriguing ! All we know so far is about the Netflix anime series, and the movie with Tom Hardy was announced more than a decade ago so it has probably been scrapped now.
But I always wanted to see a live-action series rather than a live-action movie, the series format suits more to the Splinter Cell type of story. So hopefully he's not confusing with the anime series.
Yup, the Hardy movie was scrapped after the Assassin's Creed film flopped. New Regency did not want to risk with Ubisoft IPs anymore.
And it was certainly for the best. Back then movie producers and directors weren't taking videogames seriously. Unlike nowadays where a lot of them have finally understood how to adapt them the right way into series or movies, and by respecting the source material.

I think it's a little muddled from the people near the camera talking. I believe he's confirming that the Netflix animation is underway with an actor he really respects taking the Sam role. The only thing I heard in that segment around South Africa is an old anecdote he's shared in BTS material before about Johannesburg and Bangladesh regarding PT's debut of Xbox Live, and the game players being more informed than the news because they were talking to people literally there.
Maybe I'm wrong and I missed him mentioning a live action show, which would be incredible!

It's so difficult to imagine Blacklist as a continuation of a Sam Fisher game because of Johnson. If it wasn't related to Sam and his daughter and a separate Splinter Cell entity or a new agent, or hell even someone trying to save Sam, then it would possibly be a good SC game. Don't get me wrong, once I found the completely stealthy way to do things, it was good but without MI attached to it, and knowing Johnson shut him down, forget it.
