Joan Elizabeth Horrigan OBITUARY

HORRIGAN Joan Elizabeth of Newton and West Dennis passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Lasell House Newton at the age of 86. She was born on October 22, 1929 in Cambridge. Daughter of the late Leo and Mary (Monroe) Horrigan. She graduated from Newton High School 1947, Trinity College Washington DC 1951, and received doctorate from Staley College of the Spoken Word, Brookline (notable graduates: James Michael Curley, John F. Kennedy, Dapper O’Neil) and master’s degree from Radcliffe College 1953. Devoted brother of John “Jack” Horrigan of Newton. Loving cousin of Frank Horrigan of Bedford, Nancy Horrigan Cronan of New Bedford, Patricia Horrigan Pakos of Sudbury and Francis Horrigan of Southwick. Joan taught English at Dartmouth High School, Watertown High School and for 44 years as a Professor of Communication Arts at Framingham State University. Late member of Professional Registered Parliamentarian (NAP). Parliamentarian for Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston. Inc. and American Society, Inc. for more than 10 years. She was an avid bridge player and during the summers she enjoyed playing golf on Cape Cod. Funeral from the Lehman Reen & McNamara Funeral Home, 63 Chestnut Hill Avenue (nr. Brighton Courthouse), BRIGHTON Friday July 1 at 9:00 A.M. Followed by Funeral Mass in Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola, 28 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill at 10:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours Thursday, June 30 from 3:00 P.M. 7:00 P.M. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
