Are there any fun competitive games for two people?
So I’m having a friend over for dinner tomorrow, and she’s a really amazing and loves playing video games such as COD, I want to download a game that competitive, easier to understand for those who don’t really play the switch, and can be flexible when wanting a conversation Any suggestions?
Screencheat is a funny splitscreen game where you play a versus FPS game but both of you are invisible and have to screenpeak to know where to shoot. Always a hit with my friends
Boomerang Fu.
Clubhouse games is fun as well as you can zip in and out of multiple different classic games.
made my 7 yo nephew cry with this game.
Got this for my kids when they had a group of friends over and they had a blast.
Had a group of boys for my sons birthday and that was a hit. Had to get creative with controllers but they still ask about it.
Nothing says two player competition like a fighting game. Pick up and Street Fighter, King of Fighters, etc. and you're set.
Ultimate Chicken Horse
Pretty fantastic competitive platforming party game
You're basically each making the stage more difficult every round. As long as someone dies, whoever makes it to the exit gets points. If everyone makes it, I believe no one gets points. So you're just iterating on the stage, making it hard but not impossible. Each players gets 1 item (maybe 2 in a 2-player game) to place each round.
100% great party game would recommend
Can't recommend this one enough and I love how you can customize the game settings too
Heave Ho is one of my favorite competitive or cooperative games to hop in and out of. 1-4 players, short rounds, very simple controls
Towerfall ascension
Cruisin is simple arcade fun.
Mario Kart
Ultimate Chicken Horse
Golf with Friends
Stick Fight
Mario Party Superstars
Smash Bros
Runbow
If you want something simple that's near guaranteed to at least be fun for a little while, Clubhouse Games works well just for variety and simplicity.
If you want something silly, maybe look at the Jackbox games? They're ideal with 3+ players but 2 works very well for a lot of the games. Also if you can set it up to stream, you can play with anyone who can view your steam and has a mobile browser.
Mario Kart is the right answer, but a blue shell may also end your relationship. The most dangerous of games.
I recommend Towerfall. It's a 2d versus shooter game, but you're using bows and have a limited number of arrows. It's by the same devs as Celeste and has the same art style. 2 - 4 people can play on one screen if you've got enough joy cons. Each person requires only 1 joy con. It's a lot more fun than I've made it sound.
Try a serious Sam. I enjoy splitscreen running around shooting hordes lol
Fight crab
This game is so weird and zany and I don't hear it recommended enough.
It even has motion controls, OP!
Vampire Survivor
Cuphead
River City Girls
Scott Pilgrim v. The World
Mario Cart
Cuphead isn’t competitive in the slightest
Only if you're not a game journalist. Then it is the "Dark Souls" of retro video games...
For everyone else, it is a "can I stop dying 20 times in a row to these silly-looking bosses" simulator. Or keep my buddy alive because he walked into a projectile for the 5th time in two minutes?
River City girls seems terribly expensive for a copy, are people buying it digitally?
River City Girls can be downloaded digitally for (currently on sale for $15, usually $30)
River City Girls 2 is $40 for digital download, but I've seen it on sale before.
Overcooked
Terrible rec! It sounds like OP actually likes their friend and wants to keep them around lol
Overcooked is the most stressful game I've ever played.
It depends. It’s a really chill game for us, my wife and I
you should try Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes
Came to recommend this and even though it’s coop and not competitive you will both be talking shit the whole time
I had a blast with my now wife. It depends really
If she really loves video games then this might be too “casual” for her, but when I read the thread I thought of Nintendo Switch Sports. That and Smash Bros.
I think Inversus is a lot of fun, though it's better with 4 players. It's very simple to pick up, but there's a fair amount of depth to the tactics.
You could try the ftp game omega strikers, it’s an anime-style air hockey/soccer game. Game’s hyper competitive though and support is dead, but the game’s still somewhat alive
Metal slug series
Me and my friend used to spend hours playing cel damage in split screen. It's a car combat game built around cartoon physics, it's both funny and a great party game. It's on the switch, ps3/4/5 as Cel Damage HD and is usually quite cheap.
Brawlhala. Very fun, and I believe it's on switch.

Super Mario brothers , Luigi mansion you can do multiplayer as well.
Dokapon Kingdom Connect
Snipperclips
Heave-Ho
It takes two
Overcooked
Smash
Crawl is a fun take on the dungeon delving genre. Up to four players. One person plays the hero, the other(s) play the monsters and traps. Everybody gets to level up and upgrade as you go along.
Switch Sports is the switch version of The Beloved Wii sports program. Most of the sports are two players at least and all involve the motion controls.
Nidhogg 2
Super Mario Bros. 3 => VS Mode
It can be quite competitive.
No one has mentioned Switch Sports?
Fighting games are like the two player competitive genre, but just 1v1 fights might be a bit inflexible if you're not evenly matched or sometimes want something less intense. Smash Bros has a lot of game modes and you could also team up against the CPU if you want something more chill and cooperative.
I had a field day playing Snipperclippers with my little brother. It’s silly as heck but a lot of fun.
Overcooked
Snipperclips :)
ARMS. U r welcome
Smash Brothers and MarioKart have been scratching that itch for me for over 20 years. They are easy to pick up, hard to master, and each game only takes a few minutes.
Spiderheck is a lot of fun imo, check out a trailer for it.
Smash bros Mario kart 51 clubhouse games
Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain, it's a highly competitive local coop game in our household.
Could also wait for Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, releases in July this year.
How has nobody recommended “What the Golf!”????? ⛳️ This game is an absolute blast for two players. My family has had hours laughing at the zany levels and the studio keeps popping out tons of free updates.
Overcooked 😬😁 lol
Smash Ultimate, Mario Kart 8
Towerfall. Super simple, responsive controls, easy to pick up, the only thing you can blame is your own reflexes
me and an ex who i’m still friendly with played a lot of pokemon stadium (minigames), pokemon shuffle, and mario tennis on NSO. we got REALLY into mario tennis it was wild.
pico park is fun.
Any updates? Love to see what was picked and how it went.
If you play Overcooked in co-op incorrectly, it’s a competition :P
Pikmin
Pikmin
Windjammers
Boomerang Fu, Smash Bros, Mario Party, Mario Kart
YES very much, WRC generations is split screen. It's a split screen rally game. Watching your friends and family crash the rally cars is funny
Dude I got this game called “it takes two” and me and my girlfriend have been having an absolute blast playing it. My 6 year old has even joined in when one of us wants to take a break
I just got this from the library to play with my girlfriend. I'm so pumped
Splatoon 3 is a good choice
Fly, punch, boom! Is also a fun small switch game
Splatoon is a 3rd person shooter that is similar to COD while having unique gameplay elements from it.
I'm not sure what you mean by " can be flexible when wanting a conversation"?
Genital jousting!!
Ditch the switch and get a next gen console! Surprise her with COD… You win 😉
Who's your daddy?
My man just go play a game of chess in a nearby park
