Yay, I was able to navigate this one! Kudos and thanks to everyone involved in assembling it! I'm sure I picked some obvious choices, but I went with...
10. Spectre by Ostrander 2
9. Shade the Changing Man 2
8. Suicide Squad by Ostrander 2
7. Superman Golden Age 8
6. Wonder Woman Golden Age 7
5. Superman Exile/Triangle Bridging Book Thingie
4. Spectre by Ostrander 1
3. Shade the Changing Man 1
2. Suicide Squad by Ostrander 1
1. Birds of Prey by Simone 1
Voted:
1.Strange Adventures, The Silver Age Omnibus Vol. 1 (1955 & on)
2.Superman: The Golden Age Omnibus Vol 8 (1950 & on)
3.Superman: The Silver Age Omnibus Vol 2 (1960 & on)
4.Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane, Silver Age Vol. 1 (1958 & on)
5.Tales of the Unexpected, The Silver Age Omnibus Vol. 1 (1956 & on)
6.Rip Hunter, Time Master, The Silver Age Omnibus (1959 – 1965)
7.Metal Men, The Silver & Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1 (1962 & on)
8.Legion of Super-Heroes by Paul Levitz Vol. 1 (of 2) (1984 – 1986) [Includes Legionnaires 3]
9.Legion of Super-Heroes by Paul Levitz Vol. 2 (of 2) (1986 – 1989)
10.Hawkman, The Silver Age Omnibus Vol. 1 (1961 & on)
Going heavy 90s. Please join me. We're the ones who've been shafted. And in my opinion, there's no point voting for 90s Superman considering Exile & Triangle Era Vol. 1 are releasing within 3 months of each other. I don't have to fight for books that are pretty much guaranteed to come out. This is a poll for books we HAVE to fight for them to take it seriously.
5. Batman: Knightfall Aftermath (1994 - 1996)
6. DC Events: The Elseworlds Annuals (1994)
Some of these choices were tough! I put the post-Exile Superman omnibus pretty low, since I think they're bound to do it before long, anway. Starman might seem like a wasted slot since it is currently in print, but I've been wanting proper omnibus collections of it for ages! It is quite possibly the greatest superhero run ever, and it deserves that treatment!
I voted all the Triangle Superman, Silver Age Lois, Jimmy and Superboy, then Legends of the Dark Knight, Ostrander Spectre and lastly Levitz Legion (out of curiosity).
This poll was an improvement and I applaud the work that went into assembling all these titles. If nothing else, it brought home to me how many DC purchases I would be making if only they would print the stuff. More than I had thought. I could have placed at least 40 votes overall.
Still, I would not call this a "classic" poll, and that is still needed. One focusing on GA-Bronze at the latest. The area where fans are going to be bowing out of this world before they get to buy and read the stuff.
Of course, I went mostly classic in my choices, avoiding some obvious other ones that I don't think DC will need my help in voting to get into print (SA Superman v2, BA Batman v1). Reviewing, I made one glaring error and voted for the wrong age of Jimmy Olsen (bronze instead of SA). I suppose there is no way to change that.
My choices:
Rose & Thorn (1947 & on)
Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen, Silver Age Vol. 1 (1954 & on) -- my original intended vote
Batman & Superman - World’s Finest, The Silver Age Omnibus Vol. 3 (1967 - 1970)
Superboy, The Silver Age Omnibus, Vol. 1 (1958 & on)
Superman: The Bronze Age Omnibus Vol 1 (1970 & on)
Weird War Tales, The Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1 (1971 & on)
Wonder Woman: The Bronze Age Vol. 1 (1973 & on) [follows Diana Prince omnibus; includes "12 Labors"]
What they left out:
Inferior 5
Angel & Ape
Time Warp
Mystery In Space
Imaginary Tales,
1. Batman Superman World's Finest Silver Age vol 3
2. Batman Superman World's Finest Bronze Age vol 1
3. Flash by William Messner-Loebs vol 2
4. Superman Exile Aftermath
5. Hawkman the Golden Age vol 1
6. Superman Triangle Era vol 2
7. Supergirl the Bronze Age vol 1
8. Doctor Fate by Dematteis and Messner-Loebs
9. L.E.G.I.O.N. 89 vol 1
10. Legion of Superheroes Bronze Age vol 1
I was tempted to put BA Supergirl a little higher, but was too lazy to move 3-6 all down one. I know some of these might seem like a given, but they are what I want the most so.
I didn't care about the reprint omni poll, but this one I needed another 10 votes.
This poll was an improvement and I applaud the work that went into assembling all these titles. If nothing else, it brought home to me how many DC purchases I would be making if only they would print the stuff. More than I had thought. I could have placed at least 40 votes overall.
I was adding things as I went, and filled up my votes before I made it past "A"... so I went back and was ruthless, but even so. Yes. 40, 50 easy.
LEGION
All Star Squadron
JLA Bronze 4
Superman Team Up DC Presents
Superman Bronze Age
Uncle Sam and Freedom Fighters
Warlord
GL Guy Gardner
Red Lanterns
New 52 and JLA by Meltzer and McDuffie
Just missing the cut for me was:
Ambush Bug
Batman Post Crisis
Birds of Prey Dixon
Blue Beetle Post Crisis
Blue Devil
Captain Carrot
Firestorm 80s
Green Lantern Emerald Dawn
Hawkworld
Supergirl Peter David
This was tough, I made a first list of 25 titles and started to choose by priority.
My votes:
1. Starman vol. 1
2. Starman vol. 2 (I got the compendiums, but this series deserves a bigger treatment)
3. Hawkworld by Ostrander (I recently re-read the prestige miniseries and it was as good as I remembered it)
4. Green Arrow: Connor Hawke (pure 90's classic fun)
5. L.E.G.I.O.N. and R.E.B.E.L.S. vol. 1 (more 90's)
6. Elongated Man (just for fun, I love the character)
7. Warlord vol. 1 (love Grell)
8. Shade the changing man vol. 1
9. Justice League Generation Lost
10. Hawkman by Ostrander and Messner-Loebs (and please with a Lee Weeks cover, I loved the book just for those covers)
If I could add more books:
- Flash by Messner-Loebs vol. 2 (I didn't vote it because I expect DC to publish this anyway)
- Legends of the DC Universe, Mark Waid's The Brave and the Bold and Batman Legends of the Dark Knight (but probably I would be more satisfied with a set of deluxe editions)
- Impulse vol. 1 (this was my 11th vote)
Superboy, SA Vol. 1
Superman GA vol. 8
Superman SA vol. 2
Supergirl BA vol. 1
Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane, SA Vol. 1
Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen, SA Vol. 1
World's Finest Silver Age vol 3
Superman BA vol. 1
Batman SA vol.2
Flash BA vol. 1
This was much easier to fill out than the Marvel version. Really appreciate the poll format change. My choices:
01 Legion of Super-Heroes by Paul Levitz Vol. 1 (of 2) (1984 - 1986) [Includes Legionnaires 3]
02 Justice League of America: The Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 4 (1980 & on)
03 All-Star Squadron by Roy Thomas Vol. 1 (of 2) (1981 - 1984)
04 Metal Men, The Silver & Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 1 (1962 & on)
05 Doctor Fate: The Golden Age of Earth-2 (1940 - 1986)
06 Spectre by John Ostrander Vol. 1 (of 2) (1992 - 1995)
07 Legion of Super-Heroes by Abnett & Lanning Vol. 1 (of 2) (1999 - 2001) [Begins with LOSH #122 & Legionnaires #78]
08 Secret Origins Omnibus, Vol. 1 (1986 - 1990)
09 Green Lantern: Hal Jordan & The Green Lantern Corps Vol. 1 (1979 & on) [follows Hard Travelin' Heroes omni]
10 Dial H for Hero, Silver & Bronze Age Omnibus (1966 & on)
And just outside the top 10:
11 LSH/Legionnaires v01
12 Hawkman, The Golden Age Omnibus v01
13 Young Justice v02
Voted Superman all the way, from BA through to Warworld Saga. There are way to few Supes omnis. No. 1 pick is New Krypton, which I've never read as I've been holding off, waiting for an omnibus (and it's strange that there hasn't been one, considering it's Johns).
