It is the Kurdish self-governing authorities in north-east Syria that have sent an “information package” to the Norwegian authorities.

The Oslo police district confirms this to NRK.

Earlier this year, the Norwegian authorities asked for information from the self-governing authorities, which control the area Kausar is staying in. Kausar is charged with complicity in the terrorist attack on 25 June 2022.

On Monday, PST received around ten audio files from Syria, according to NRK. The conversations take place in Arabic and were hastily translated.

In one of the files, what is supposed to be Kausar must have acknowledged that she was an intermediary between what she thought was IS and Islamists in Norway.

Yesterday afternoon, PST contacted the investigative management in the Oslo police district and told them about the content of the audio file, NRK is informed.

The Oslo police district is investigating the terrorist attack on 25 June.

– The material contains, among other things, audio recordings of what the police believe to be co-accused Aisha Kausar. The police are working to review the material now. For the sake of the investigation, the police do not want to go out with details about what appears in the recordings, writes police attorney Ingvild Myrold ​​in the Oslo police district to NRK.

NRK is informed that the Oslo Police District is now working to find out how the audio files were recorded. They are also trying to find out if Kausar has spoken voluntarily.

NRK is informed that far from all material from the self-governing authorities has been reviewed.

PST does not wish to comment on the matter.

Worked on the evidence last night

Kausar is charged with complicity in the attack in 2022. She pleads not guilty. The police believe she tried to establish contact between extreme Islamists in Norway and IS in the days before the attack took place.

The aim must have been to get IS to acknowledge the attack.

In one of the recently received files, Kausar must have acknowledged that she was such an intermediary, according to NRK’s ​​information.

Kausar’s defender, Petar Sekulic, says he has no opportunity to comment on the case now.

NRK knows that the defenders in the trial against Matapour were informed of the new evidence late last night.

– I can confirm that we have received new information today from PST who have received new information from abroad, says Matapour’s defender Marius Oscar Dietrichson to NRK.

– The information is interesting, but we must return to the meaning. The circumstances surrounding this are very unclear and it must be clarified before we can take it to court, says Dietrichson.

The audio file in which Kausar is said to have spoken about the 25 June attack was translated by a state-authorised interpreter during the night.

However, it was not presented to the judges in court before the proceedings began.

According to Dietrichson, the evidence can also be presented after the proceedings have been completed.

– The law allows for one to come back with new evidence, also after procedures. Just before judgment is handed down, he says.

The public prosecutors in the case against Matapour do not want to comment on the new development.

Accused of torture

The Kurdish self-governing authorities have been criticized several times for human rights violations. Last April, Amnesty International published a report in which a woman said she had received electric shocks during interrogation.

The authorities in the area have told the AP news agency that they will take action if it is proven that some of their employees have been behind torture.

Kausar has not wanted to be brought back to Norway, despite the fact that she has been offered this.
