Traveling on a short flight in august from Lgw to Spain in august with EasyJet with youngish kids 9/6 we only have small cabin bags each but when we arrive in Spain we have a hire car booked so was wondering do EasyJet allow the kids to carry on small booster seats or would i be charged as extra baggage for this?

You can only take an underseat bag. Anything else would have to be checked in. You say small booster seats. Do they conform with Spanish law with regards to type of car seats for the kids ages?

Best request child seats with the car rental company rather than attempt to them with you.
