Colombo, May 13 (Daily Mirror) - In response to concerns over irregularities during the 2023 (2024) G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examinations, grace marks are set to be awarded for answers of several questions found to be outside the Science syllabus.

Commissioner General of Examinations, Amith Jayasundara said that only the problematic questions in the Science paper will receive these grace marks.

Someone needs to be fired for messing up the questions. Isn't there a panel who decides on what questions to put on a national test paper? There needs to be accountability when officials don't do their job!!

The leaking of O/L exam papers has been a longstanding issue in Sri Lanka. In 1968, during the GCE O/L examination, the papers were leaked, leading the ministry to postpone the exam until 1969. This marked the beginning of the deterioration of the country's educational system. High-ranking officials within the department are deeply corrupt.

The academic who set the papers should know the SYLLABUS first.

Those who prepared the question paper are they not aware of the syllabus. If that is so the commissioner general will have to resign for appointing such people to prepare the papers. As usual no one take the responsibility, that is why sri lanka is at present status.

What about the students who didn't pick up that questions due to no cover of such area during the studies??? What about them???

What a novel and creative way to conduct an examination. Not exercising adequate care in setting the question papers and then awarding grace marks. Students will have no trouble passing examinations if we have examiners of this caliber. Now that a blunder has been done, a better way would have been to ignore these questions and adjusted the marks on a proportionate basis. Whatever it is this is certainly an indelible scar on the Department of Examinations.
