Drawing inspiration from the life of Indian cricket icon Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Mr and Mrs Mahi guarantees a riveting cinematic experience for viewers, and skillfully amalgamates the worlds of sports, drama and romance, offering an engaging narrative. In a touching homage to legendary cricketer MS Dhoni, the Mr and Mrs Mahi trailer showcases the lead couple attending a Team India cricket match while donning jerseys bearing the iconic number ‘7’ – a number closely associated to, and can even be dubbed as synonymous with, Dhoni’s illustrious career. In a treat for cricket enthusiasts, the makers of Mr and Mrs Mahi have also incorporated a unique cameo featuring Dhoni, ensuring his presence is felt throughout the film. Although Dhoni doesn’t appear directly in the trailer, a wall at Rajkummar’s store proudly displays a larger-than-life image of the celebrated former captain, alongside other cricket icons such as Sachin Tendulkar, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Smriti Mandhana and Dinesh Karthik. This creative nod to Dhoni’s legacy serves as a heartwarming tribute and seamlessly connects the film to its cricket-inspired roots.

The trailer has received an overwhelmingly positive response from fans and the Bollywood community alike. Many have taken to social media to express their excitement for the upcoming release, praising the film’s captivating visuals, emotional depth, and talented cast. A netizen wrote, “I’m screaming”. Following the trailer launch event, Janhvi who was seen dazzling in a red and blue saree, told the media that she dislocated both her shoulders learning cricket for the film. In 2022, the Milli actor, told Bollywood Hungama, “I know that’s going to be another memorable experience. I’ve already dislocated my shoulder twice while playing cricket,” as she revealed the amount of hard work she was putting into preparing for the role which demands her to play the sport.

Mr and Mrs Mahi marks the second collaboration between Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, following their stint in the 2021 horror thriller Roohi. The film also features a stellar ensemble cast, including Abhishek Banerjee, Rajesh Sharma, Kumud Mishra, Zarina Wahab, and Purnendu Bhattacharya. Produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, along with Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta, under Dharma Productions, Mr and Mrs Mahi has been generating buzz since its announcement in November 2021.

Last year, Karan had taken to his social media handle to announce the film. “One dream, chased by two hearts. Presenting #MrAndMrsMahi, directed by Sharan Sharma who is back with another heart-warming story to tell with his touch of magic! Starring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, a partnership to look forward to. See you on the field aka the cinemas,” Karan captioned the post. While Rajkummar shared a similar caption, Janhvi wrote, “Time to pad up – it’s going to be a journey of two hearts chasing a dream! Presenting #MrAndMrsMahi, coming to cinemas near you.”
