Richard Davis OBITUARY

Richard “Dick” E. Davis, 88, of Perry Township, died Wednesday afternoon in the Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Suzanne L. (Ammon) Davis, who died December 30, 2009. Born in Kenhorst, he was the son of the late Eugene and Mary (Lebo) Davis.

Surviving are three daughters: Linda, wife of Sergei Szortyka, of Sinking Spring, Nicole Davis, of Reading, and Michelle Davis, of Perry Township. He was predeceased by two sons, Gary R. Davis, who died June 9, 1978, and Scott A. Davis, who died February 3, 2016.

Grandchildren are Colette, Natashja, Gabriella, Dimitri and Adrianna. Great-grandchildren are Gary and Aleksandr.

Richard is survived by his three beloved brothers: Wilbur, husband of Betty Davis, of Mohrsville, Gerald, husband of Judy Davis, of Blandon, and Eugene, husband of Elizabeth Davis, of Barto.

Richard was a member of Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Shoemakersville. He also was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Temple Fire Company and the Shoemakersville Fire Company. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and making birdhouses.

Richard proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army.

Mr. Davis worked as a Locomotive Engineer, beginning his career with the Reading Railroad in 1953. He retired in 1990 from Conrail, with thirty-seven years of service.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shoemakersville, with Reverend Bruce G. Osterhout officiating. Family will greet attendees following the memorial service with a luncheon at the church. Condolences may be offered at milkinsgilesfuneralhome.com.
