Why Vince McMahon Was Opposed to Holding WWE Premium Live Events Outside the US

Vince McMahon was known for his bizarre quirks and particular preferences during his tenure as head of WWE. However, there are quite a few things he just didn’t like doing from a business point of things.

On a recent episode of The Jim Cornette Experience, Cornette and Brian Last delved into WWE’s recent triumphs with international events. Cornette shed light on why McMahon refrained from staging major shows overseas.

Jim Cornette emphasized that Vince McMahon believed it would impact pay-per-view buys, which were crucial for the company’s revenue stream at the time.

“One reason Vince didn’t want to do pay-per-views, the big show, whether premium live event or whatever anywhere outside of the continental United States is because of the time zone difference. It would affect the buys and the buys were where all the money came in.”

Obviously, things are different now since WWE’s business is booming with Backlash breaking records as well. WWE also has plans to host The Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia after 2025, so there’re clearly a lot of things going on outside the USA now.
