Ireland To Claim Tom Holland After Dad Confirms Irish Roots

Ireland To Lay Claim To Tom Holland After Dad Confirms Irish Roots

While we're well-used to the UK claiming Irish stars as their own, we can now return the favour, legitimately, as Tom Holland's grandmother is actually from Ireland.

The revelation came thanks to Tom's father Dominic who was a guest on Ireland AM to promote his new book, Open Links, and talk soon turned to his Web-Slinging son.

The 27-year-old actor, best known for his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was born and raised in London, but he better start practicing his Irish brogue now that we know he has the heritage.

During his appearance on Ireland AM on Friday, Tom's dad Dominic Holland gushed over his son, calling him a 'good kid' as he revealed the actor chose to live close to his family in London.

Hosts Gráinne Seoige and Martin King joked it was because Tom still got his washing done and 'three meals cooked for him a week'. Dominic then fessed up that he does in fact still do his son's washing and cooks food for him.

'Dominic, you martyr! Are you sure you're not an Irish mammy?,' Gráinne jokingly questioned. 'You sound like one!'

To their surprise, he explained the Holland clan has roots in Ballywilliam and Nenagh, revealing that his Granny Quigley hailed from Ireland.

'All my cousins, they all claim Tom to be their closest cousin now,' Dominic explained. Gráinne interjected: 'Absolutely, and now we're going to claim him also.' Too right!

The Holland family are extremely close, with Tom's brothers even going into acting themselves, even appearing in Spider-Man No Way Home with him... well... sort of.

The world got to see Tom Holland's reaction to his brother getting cut from his third solo outing as the Web-Slinger when he appeared on the Graham Norton Show to promote the film.

Tom had been having a tough day on set having been upside-down all day, and his brother Harry, instead of being sympathetic, teased him to no end, so when an opportunity arose to get some revenge, Tom jumped at the chance.

Tom gleefully shared: 'So we do the scene, Harry's upside down and he's swinging back and forward and, bless him, he's doing a really good job, and as the day is going on, he's got these lines and he starting to forget his lines and his eyes look like they're going to pop out of his head...

'So we're driving home that day and I was actually really proud of him, but he was like, "Mate, you can complain as much as you want. That was brutal."'

Poor Harry probably got a bit of a shock though when watching his brother on the show as Tom then revealed that the scene ended up on the cutting room floor!

'The icing on the cake though, and I don't think he knows this,' Tom chuckled, 'we [gestures to Zendaya] got to see the film the other day and they've cut the scene It's not in the film... He said to me, "You know mate, it was really tough but I was just really excited about being in a Spider-Man movie." Sucks to be you bro!'
