Modding has, historically, been one of Homeworld games' biggest draws. Players and dedicated community developers have been producing phenomenal side-content for Homeworld 1 and Homeworld 2 for years now, and the good news is that Homeworld 3 is going to continue this trend!
That's right: we already know, for a fact, that Homeworld 3 will not only officially support mods with mod.io integration provided by default, but that the developers is also looking to provide full access to modding tools at some point in the future. Homeworld 3 should, therefore, be a veritable modding powerhouse in a few months' time, and down below, we'll explain why that is the case.

Everything We Know About Homeworld 3 Mod Tools and Modding at Large
The good folks over at Gearbox are going all-out when it comes to Homeworld 3's modding capacities. Notably, as the game is built on Unreal Engine 4, this is going to make custom asset creation and implementation easy as pie... once the mod kit is out: "Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen challenges our custom Homeworld 3 Unreal 4 editor will be initially unavailable at launch," says the dev's press statement from a little while back.
"Players interested in jumping into modding for Homeworld 3 will be using the Homeworld 3 Unreal 4 Editor to develop their mods, which will be made available for download for free on the Epic Games Store. This will require some familiarity with Unreal Editor. There are many creators putting out informative, helpful tutorials and guides on how to use Unreal Editor before you get started," said the statement.
When all is said and done, it should be fairly straightforward for dedicated modders to create a whole array of unofficial Homeworld 3 content:
- new maps
- new army compositions and units
- fleet customization options
- assorted game assets
