Hi booked a hotel ( ara Maris) and they confirmed that prepayment 4 weeks prior to arrival. Never been to Italy so don’t know if this is normal . This is a new hotel and reviews amazing, great price
Depends on the kind of rate/deal. Pretty common all over the world these days.
Some hotels only offer bookings with full pre-payment, others offer both full pre-payment and for more money, will offer paying when you check out OR will take payment maybe some days pre-arrival date of your booking.
There is no one set standard for how a hotel chooses their booking policies.
You can - if you want - find one that offers a booking you can cancel a number of days pre-arrival and you would just provide your credit card to secure the booking.
The choice of what sort of hotel booking you prefer is entirely up to you -
