The official promo trailer for the upcoming hour-long series finale of Young Sheldon has dropped, teasing the aftermath of last week’s devastating episode. The series finale will be divided into two episodes titled "Funeral" and "Memoir," which are both written by executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland.

The video begins with a brief recap of Young Sheldon’s seven-season journey, while also highlighting some of George’s bonding moments with Sheldon. It provides fans with a glimpse of George’s funeral, as the Coopers try to support each other through such a massive and heartbreaking loss. Prior to his death, George, Mary and Missy were actually planning to move to Houston after George was finally offered his dream job of coaching college football. The trailer also features Iain Armitage’s Sheldon, who will seemingly get a chance to say goodbye to his father through a dream, teasing an emotional moment for the titular character.

Young Sheldon hails creators Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, who are the creative team behind the award-winning sitcom The Big Bang Theory. The spinoff centers around Sheldon Cooper’s childhood in Texas, and his very normal family who must find a way to deal with an eccentric genius like him. Besides Armitage, the series is also being led by Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper, Lance Barber as George Cooper Sr., Annie Potts as Meemaw/ Constance, Montana Jordan as Georgie Cooper, Raegan Revord as Missy Cooper and Emily Osment as Mandy, with Jim Parsons serving as the narrator and executive producer.

Young Sheldon Finale Reunites Jim Parsons & Mayim Bialik

The hour-long series finale will also bring back The Big Bang Theory alums Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik, as they reprise their respective fan-favorite roles as Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler. This marks the pair’s first onscreen appearance after five years since the original CBS sitcom ended its 12-season run in 2019. Prior to returning to the finale, Bialik had also done voice-overs in two episodes of the series. In a previous interview, Parsons recalled his "really special experience" filming the Young Sheldon finale, describing it as "even more beautiful than I [he] expected it to be."

Due to its great ratings, the Young Sheldon cast didn’t expect the network to suddenly end the show. According to Potts, they were "totally ambushed" by the cancellation, calling it a "stupid business move" on the network’s part. "This one was especially hard because I was completely unprepared," The Ghostbusters vet said. "I was shocked. I mean, the No. 1 show on network TV, No. 1 on Netflix. We’re, I think, all that people watch on TikTok besides a couple of recipes for pasta. It just seemed like such a stupid business move. Forgive me, but I don’t know. If a show is starting to drag or lag or have a lack of stories or whatever, then you kind of see it coming. We were totally ambushed by this. I was, anyway."

Young Sheldon officially ends its seven-season run this Thursday, May 16 on CBS.
