It has been nothing short of a frustrating first season for Mason Mount at Manchester United. The English international moved to Old Trafford from rivals Chelsea last summer. The fans were excited with the signing since the 25-year-old has already proven his worth in the Premier League. Capable of playing in numerous positions, the best attribute about the versatile midfielder is his incredible work rate.

However, Manchester United supporters have not been able to watch him in action properly this season. From the start of his United career, Mount has been getting plenty of injuries. For long periods, he stayed on the sidelines and on rare occasions, he used to play. Having recently returned from a lengthy injury, Mount was expected to play an important role in the club’s run-in during the final games of this season.

When will Mason Mount return to action?

However, Mount suffered another setback and will now miss the Premier League fixture against Arsenal on Sunday. Providing an update on the length of the injury, Erik ten Hag told MUTV, “It’s a minor issue. So he’s definitely not out for the season. I think a couple of days, then he’ll return. Maybe Newcastle [next Wednesday] is too short but I think he can be available for Brighton [in our final match of the league season].”

Later, ten Hag detailed in on Mount’s injury record and labelled his situation with the club as “bad luck.” “I am very happy with Mason and he is also a very robust player. You see in his profile, he played in the last four seasons, this is the fifth, he only had one small issue at the end of his Chelsea career. Before that, he played almost all the games for three seasons after each other. Even with three days’ turnaround, he always played. I think it is really bad luck and he is a good player. We really missed him across the season because he absolutely would have made a contribution to our levels,” ten Hag said in his press conference.

The manager provided further injury updates on other players in his squad, including that of Lisandro Martinez. “Some players, they are really fighting to be available and that is so amazing. They all try. They are all desperate to play. Yesterday Licha came to me and he wanted to play on Sunday against Arsenal but he is not ready yet. He needs a little bit more time to go through the process. But he is so desperate and there are more: Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof,” he explained.

Ten Hag added: “Luke Shaw had a setback in his process as well, but there is still a hope and he will fight to be available for the final. I will never gamble with a player. Never. It is about them, about their futures. That is the most important. About their careers. I have to take responsibility for it and of course, the club is the most important. But the safety of the player, the health of the player, is also always a high level [of importance].”
