Joseph Thorne Obituary

Joseph Ward Thorne passed away unexpectedly while in Florida with his family on April 27, 2024 at the age of 66. Joe was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 13, 1957, the third child of William Dulan (Dooley) Thorne and Merlin Marie Stewart Thorne. In 1960, the family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where Joe made his home for the rest of his life. A 1975 graduate of Broadmoor High School, Joe was a gifted athlete who played football, basketball, and baseball while at Broadmoor. He was happiest during baseball season, however, and was proud to be the catcher for Coach Bryan Vaughn's Broadmoor Bucs. Joe never met a stranger. His easy-going personality and wide smile made everyone he met feel like they had known him forever. Joe made many friends while playing fast-pitch softball, where his teams found success in tournaments all over the United States, and he had a group of loyal golf buddies, but Joe's best friend was his wife Janet, who was his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. He and Janet celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary one week before his untimely passing. Joe and Janet had a wonderful life together. They enjoyed traveling with their young children, Crystal and Adam, making many fond memories while on camping trips in the early days of their marriage. They loved home and family, and celebrated every holiday with zeal. Joe's Christian upbringing left him with an abiding love for Jesus Christ. This faith deepened throughout his adult life as he and Janet raised their family in church and sent their children to Catholic school. Joe retired from Uniroyal Chemical after a 30- year career, and then worked for several years at TMA Environmental. Over the years, Joe's work took him into several plants along the Ascension parish chemical corridor, most recently at Lion Copolymer in Geismar. Joe is survived by his wife, Janet Carlock Thorne, his daughter, Crystal Marie Thorne Woods (Bruce) of Clovis, California, his son, Joseph Adam Thorne (Katie Michel) of Baton Rouge, his grandchildren Joseph Parker Woods, Presley Jane Woods, Madeline Claire Thorne, and Mackenzie Carly Thorne, his sister Mary Theriot (Randy), his brother Bill Thorne (Susan), his mother-in-law Mary Jane Carlock, his sister-in-law Susie Elliott (Bob), his brother-in-law Robert Carlock, his brother-in-law Joey Carlock (Mary), and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law Lyman Carlock, his sister-in-law Becky Doty and his brother-in-law James Carlock. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joe's life on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 11485 Ferdinand Street, St. Francisville, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. until funeral services at 10:00 a.m., conducted by Father Brad Doyle. Burial will follow at the Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery. A reception will be held following the graveside service at Catalpa, home of Mary Thompson. Joe will live forever in the hearts and memories of those who were blessed to know him. Aww Joe... I'm saddened. However, as I processed, while looking at the picture, the same kind eyes, that indistinguishable smile..., as suddenly as my eyes stung with tears, I found myself able to smile back at the picture of Joe. Memories came flooding back. Wonderfully happy memories. The fondness in my heart always remained, as it always will. School Days memories. Such a privilege. My condolences to Janet, his family and Joe's countless friends, many of whom, will always in my heart, be my cherished friends too. Love to all, sincerely, Jann.

"Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away." Song of Songs 8:7 - I'm saddened to hear of Joe's passing. We forged a friendship at Uniroyal many years ago. Joe was a straight up good guy. May the Lord comfort and keep you in His care and cover you in HIs grace.
