Eurovision came to an end last week with Nemo winning the title for Switzerland with their song Code.

Malta failed to reach the final round, but Sarah Bonnici put on a spectacular performance, kicking off the second semi-final with a bang.

Lovin Malta’s Clara Sciberras caught up with the Gozitan singer at Karamelli Cafe in Gozo to talk about her experience in Malmö and everything that came with it.

When asked about reading comments, Sarah had quite a bit to say on the matter.

“I don’t read comments in general. I believe that a lot of positive comments can inflate your ego and a lot of hate comments that are pointless will put you down for no reason,” the singer replied.

“So I just focus on constructive ones but I think the worst comment – on my teeth for example,” Sarah added.

“For a very long time I was very self-conscious of my teeth when I was younger because people made fun of them. I went to countless of dentists to fix them. I was told that it could change my voice.”

“Now I’ve grown to love them. They’re different. They make me unique. Sometimes when I’m walking I see people looking and wondering if I’m the girl from Eurovision and then I smile at them and when they see my teeth they confirm that it’s me.”

Sarah also spoke about how she feels Malta deserved a place in the final of Eurovision. However, she mentioned that the competition is no longer “a matter of the act being good” and also noted that the show is becoming political.

However, Sarah shared how Eurovision gave her the opportunity to be exposed to millions of people and she got the chance of a lifetime to perform on the Eurovision stage, which brings with it countless opportunities.

Last week Sarah also released her new song Lose as she continues to focus on the next step of her musical career.
