Dean R. Snyder

Dean R. Snyder, 86, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024. He was born and raised in Hampshire County, WV, to the late Charles and Mary Ellen Snyder.

After graduating high school, Dean attended Washington and Lee University on a one-year football scholarship. He completed his BS degree in Mathematics at Sheppard University. He worked at the Naval Surface Weapons Center at Dahlgren Naval Base. Dean then worked briefly at Alleghany Ballistics Lab before completing his career at Dahlgren. At 50 years old, he returned to college and earned his Master of Public Administration from VA Tech. Dean worked as a Department of Defense Staffer for congressman Samuel Ortiz (Texas) for six months. At 58 years old, he was offered and accepted an early retirement. He then spent his remaining years hunting, fishing, and enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dean's honesty, integrity, and faith made a tremendous impact on many people, and he will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his son, W. Scott Snyder (Alice); four grandchildren, Angel Chavonelle (Thomas), Courtney Crawford (Curtis), Charles Dean Snyder, and Allyson Grace Snyder; seven great-grandchildren, Blaze Chavonelle, Jacoby Chavonelle, Serenity Chavonelle, Gabriel Chavonelle, Ruth Mayann Crawford, Ezra Dean Crawford, and Shilo William Crawford; five nieces; and four nephews. In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; two brothers, Wilmoth and Glen; and one adopted sister.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Hollywood Church of the Brethren. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Oak Hill Cemetery.
