Aaron Rodgers, Green & White Have Matchups Under the Lights Against 49ers, Patriots, Bills, Steelers, Texans and Colts

2024 Primetime Schedule v2 1920x1080 - BLK

The New York Jets were awarded a franchise-high six primetime games when the 2024 NFL Schedule was unveiled Wednesday night.

The Jets played five primetime games in the 2010, 2011 and 2023 seasons. The Green & White will play four at home, another franchise high, and two on the road (three of the five games in '10, '11 and '23 were at home) in 2024.

On Tuesday, the NFL announced the Jets' first primetime contest will be at San Francisco in Week 1 against the NFC Champion 49ers on Monday Night Football, which means the Green & White will open on MNF for a second straight season. The Jets will also play in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against the Vikings, which equates to a seventh stand-alone game.

Below are the five other primetime contests.

9/19: Week 3 vs. New England, 8:15p.m. (Prime Video)
This game will mark the eighth time the Jets will play their home opener in Game 3 of a season and the first time since 2017 against the Dolphins (20-6 win). This matchup will also be the first time since 2010 and 2011 the Jets have opened the season at home in consecutive years in primetime. After snapping their 15-game losing skid against New England in Week 18 last season, the Jets will now look to snap their eight-game skid to the Patriots at MetLife Stadium.

The Pats will certainly feel like a different team with a new head coach for the first time since 2000. Jerod Mayo takes over for future Hall of Famer Bill Belichick and he'll have a new QB – either veteran Jacoby Brissett or Drake Maye, the No. 3 overall pick out of UNC.

10/14: Week 6 vs. Buffalo, 8:15p.m. (ESPN)
The Jets will play the Bills at MetLife Stadium on Monday Night Football for the second time in as many seasons. Last year's matchup came in Week 1, a thrilling 22-16 overtime Jets' win as Xavier Gipson gave the home team the victory with a 65-yard punt return touchdown. The Green & White have beaten the Bills at MetLife Stadium in each of the past two seasons, their first home two-game win streak over Buffalo since 2016-17.

Buffalo will look different on both sides of the ball, especially on defense without CB Tre'Davious White (Rams), S Jordan Poyer (Dolphins) and S Micah Hyde (free agent). Their offense, still led by QB Josh Allen, is without WR Stefon Diggs. Let's see how their second-round pick WR Keon Coleman assimilates in OC Joe Brady's offense and how he'll match up against All-Pro CB Sauce Gardner.

10/20: Week 7 at Pittsburgh, 8:20p.m. (NBC)
The Jets will play against Russell Wilson for a second consecutive season but with the veteran QB on a new team. The Jets beat Wilson and the Broncos last year at Mile High Stadium, 31-21, and also topped the Steelers, 24-20, in Pittsburgh in 2022 when Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett quarterbacked the Black & Gold. QB Aaron Rodgers has a 4-3 head-to-head regular season record against Wilson and a 1-1 record in the postseason.

This game also features two defenses that can get after the quarterback. Quinnen Williams and Cam Heyward lead the charge at DT while T.J. Watt (league-leading 19 sacks in 2023) and Haason Reddick (11 sacks) are the predominant forces at edge.

10/31: Week 9 vs. Houston, 8:15p.m. (Prime Video)
This is a rematch from last year's 30-6 Jets' win where then-rookie sensation QB C.J. Stroud was held to season lows of 91 passing yards, 43.5% accuracy and a 54.8 rating. Stroud was, however, missing his top targets in wide receivers Tank Dell and Nico Collins. Houston traded for Stefon Diggs this offseason, who had 53 catches for 636 yards against the Jets over the past four seasons with the Bills. It'll be an entertaining matchup between the Texans WRs and the Jets CBs – Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed and Michael Carter II – debatably the best cornerback trio in the NFL.

The Jets' new-look offensive line will be tested by a Texans D-line that received reinforcements in free agency. Houston signed pass rusher Danielle Hunter (16.5 sacks in 2023), who will be paired up with Defensive Rookie of the Year Will Anderson (7 sacks), and former Jets DT Folorunso Fatukasi.

11/17: Week 11 vs. Indianapolis, 8:20p.m. (NBC)
Led by second-year QB Anthony Richardson, the Colts head to the East Coast to take on the Jets on Sunday Night Football in the Green & White's final schedule primetime matchup. Richardson's rookie season was cut short by a shoulder injury -- he played in four games and threw for 577 yards and 3 touchdowns. These teams last played at Indianapolis in the 2021 season in a Thursday night primetime game that the Colts won, 45-30. This game will feature a pair of the NFL's top running backs in Breece Hall and Jonathan Taylor, who ran for 172 yards and 2 touchdowns the last time these teams played.

The Colts retained and extended some of their own free agents such as LB Zaire Franklin, WR Michael Pittman Jr. and DB Kenny Moore II, while adding edge Laiatu Latu (first-round draft pick) and WR Adonai Mitchell (second round) in the draft.
