Is it "safe" to risk $1000 on the Nuggets to win the Series against the Wolves for $200 potential winnings?

Would you risk $1000 to win $200? ($1200 in total)....

The muppets are leading 3-2 right now.

As you can see, asking that question here is going to get a variety of results...including from people who apparently don't understand that a short-odds moneyline actually can have value.

But your phrasing raises some flags regarding your approach. No bet is "safe." That's not a thing.

It is possible that the short-odds moneyline bet has value. But just eyeballing it and saying "they probably aren't going to lose...so that looks good enough to me" isn't the way.

Consistently betting short-odds moneylines because you think they are more "safe" is not a good reason.

You make a bet because it has value. Preferably, you have a way to quantify that value and believe that the true line should be -550 and you can get -500. But it doesn't sound like that is the case for your approach.

tnx

When there is a money line or point spread involved the bet is generally pretty even. Nothing is “safe.” You might find a rare exception when something is extremely over or undervalued but that basically never happens… slightly maybe.. which is by you can find a good bet once in a while.. but not really a safe bet, unless you bet some sucker straight up.

At those odds why even bother? You're not going to make much compared to what's being risked. That series could certainly go to 7 games. If you really want to take Denver then at this point just give it one more game. If the Timberwolves manage to win the next one that line will at least come down some.

About 80% safe….(maybe 70% depending on the over round)

Winners of game 5 win the series 82% of the time. They shut ant down hard tonight.

Yes

No. It was safe to bet the Celtics weeks ago to win the East tho. Got them at -140, -200 and -280.

Prolly more safe to bet 200 pn the wolves lol

u/Minute_Giraffe_5939 avatar

lol I remember looking at them down 2-0 at +500 or something

u/Inside-Homework6544 avatar

No. The fact that they are up 3-2 is already baked into the odds. To make a profitable bet you would need special knowledge the market doesn't have. Or you would need to be able to better evaluate all the information out there.

No disrespect but if you are asking this kind of question I don't think it's probably not a good idea for you to be betting. You may want to do some more research to understand how sports betting works and ways to identify a good bet.

End of the day it's your cash and you may have some to burn but most would know not to make this bet.

Nothings safe bro

So many other options to attempt winning $200 from...too much out for the return

It’s pretty bad value, but I’ve seen people do far worse lmao

Why is it bad value? Short odds can still be value if they have expected ev. It depends how you handicap the games.

Just because something is $1.1 or $1.2 doesn’t make not value. If you think the odds should be $1.05 and you’re getting $1.1 then that is value.

The trick is knowing the real odds better than the sports books. And unless you have inside info you don't know more than the books. This especially true for big events.

Now if you are a retired pro table tennis player and coach some of the top players and spend 12hrs a day following the sport and talking to the other players/trainers/coaches... then yeah you MIGHT have an edge over the books. And once you demonstrate this by consistently winning... you will be banned. But that doesn't mean you can't spread your bets out over multiple accounts in other peoples names. You will still get banned but it will take longer.

No, better off betting a single game ML or spread that you're sure of. Making any 1k bet to win 200 is probably never worth it

It can always be worth it if it’s value.

u/mizary1 avatar

The fact that most people think like this makes short odds that much more valuable since most people bet the long odds increasing the value of the short odds.

I’m from the future: Twolves run it back and get hot for the next two games closing out the series in a game 7

-the establishment are rooting for Anthony Edwards to become the next iconic player in the NBA

-they will do anything to coddle and suck his nipples

-more icons = more money Jokic had his time in the sun and now it’s onto the next very young player for them to thrust into the spotlight

Twolves to win the series +350 to +400 sell everything and bet it if you want to retire

Not safe or smart. Want to win $200 on Denver winning the series then just lay like $150 to $180 on Denver to win exactly 4-2 or 4-3.
