What is an association?
An association is a gathering of students engaged in something on a voluntary basis. Associations are an important part of the study environment, offering you as a student a golden opportunity to expand your social and professional network. By getting involved in a association, you have the chance to form new relationships, gain valuable experiences, and actively contribute to your own well-being during your time as a student.
Association of interest? Committee or Forum?
There are many names for beloved things. Associations are often categorized into those that are academically oriented and those that cater to students with similar interests. “Line clubs”Linjeforeninger” are typically established by students within the same academic discipline with the intention of academic advancement and networking opportunities in the job market. Examples of “linjeforeninger” (study-associaions) at HiMolde include iDigital, which is aimed at IT and digitalization students, or Comitium; a meeting place for students within legal and social science studies.
An interest association/committee is for students who share a common interest, aiming to create social cohesion across age, academic interests, and study programs. Examples of such include HiMolde’s student bar “Smuget”, or “iFri” – Molde students’ outdoor life association.
Who can start up?
In principle, anyone can start a club/association. A good starting point is to be a majority of students with a common interest or goal that you wish to work more organized with while you are students at HiMolde.
Step by Step
First, check the list of active student clubs. There might be a club with a similar purpose that already exists, which you can apply for membership in.
Establish an initial group that plans the way forward. It’s advantageous if those in the initial group also intend to sit on the upcoming board.
The initial group agrees on the club’s name, purpose, drafts statutes, and invites to a founding meeting/startup meeting. Consider creating a calendar event in connection with the meeting, allowing as many interested parties as possible to participate.
At the founding meeting, the association board is elected, and the statutes are approved. It may be advantageous for the initial group/board to have planned some activities and developed a budget that can be approved.
Once this is done, you can begin the work of marketing the club and recruiting members.
NB: At Molde University College, most associations and committees are organized under “iStudent”. In this case, it is not necessary to have a separate organization number/register the club in the Brønnøysund Register. Instead, contact iStudent or SiMolde to initiate collaboration.
