One Of The Funniest Spy Shows Ever Made Comes To Netflix Today, As ‘Archer’ Drops 13 Seasons

Following

It’s crazy to think that FX’s hilarious animated spy show Archer aired for a total of 14 seasons, beginning way back in 2009 before anyone ever suspected Donald Trump might become president, or that a global pandemic was looming. The adventures of the irreverent spy Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin began in simpler times. They came to an end in 2023.

All but the final season of Archer dropped on Netflix today. That means that you can watch Season 1 - 13 of the spy comedy right now, with Season 14 coming to the streamer at a later date. Previously, the show was only available on Hulu.

The adult animated series, created by Adam Reed, is all about the incompetence of its spy agency—the International Secret Intelligence Service—and its bumbling efforts to save the world in style. Archer works for his mother, Malory (Jessica Walter) who leads the ISIS (get it?). He gets into all sorts of ridiculous situations and it’s largely a miracle that he gets out of any of them alive. It’s all very silly.

Other characters include Archer’s love-interest, the spy Lara Kane (Aisha Tyler) and a bunch of guest stars including Ron Perlman as Ramon Limon, Michael Rooker as E.Z. Ponder along with Timothy Oliphant, George Takei and Bryan Cranston, just to name a few.

Archer’s final season came to something of an abrupt ending with Season 14. Plans for future episodes were in the works but FX decided to cancel the show. It will almost certainly find a new—and very large—following on Netflix so it’s always possible more seasons could manifest down the road. We’ve seen that happen before with shows like Futurama. And it’s possible we’ll see HBO’s recently-cancelled Scavenger’s Reign return from the dead after it, too, heads to Netflix for a second lease on life.

The first 13 seasons of Archer are available to stream now on Netflix with Season 14 dropping at a later date. The series lands at the same time as one of the worst-reviewed superhero movies of all time, bringing balance to the Force.
