Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up

In their latest UKDA National League Cosmo Darts Premier Division fixture at home against Humberside Warwickshire County Darts Organisation made it four consecutive wins to see them move up into the top three places of the division.

After going 2-1 up with wins from lady of the match Chloe McKivett-Saunders, who won 3-0 against Rachel Harrison with a 16.34 average and Nina Bolt, who beat Karen Helmore 3-2, the ladies ‘B’ had to wait until the final game to secure a share of the points with Angela Jones winning 3-1 against Aleisha Blakestone to give a 3-3 result.

The men’s ‘B’ were in fine form winning 9-3, they stormed into a 4-0 lead thanks to Mark Strong, Mark Martin, William Naylor and Mark Faulkner and by the midway point of the game had 5-1 lead after Samuel Price added his man of the match performance to their tally. Price beat Liam Gordon 4-1 with a 27.04 average. The second half produced wins from Noah Rose, Lee Miller, Dave Hill and Karl Reynolds to put the hosts 12-6 up on the day to take into Sunday’s ‘A’ games.

The ladies ‘A’ romped into a winning 5-0 lead with wins from Natalie Gilbert, Kirsty Hinchliffe, Donna Pinch, Hannah Meek and Marian Conway with Hannah Meek their top player with a super 23.11 average in her 3-1 win over Christine Readhead. Humberside won the final game to put the result at 5-1.

Noel Grant gave the men’s ‘A’ a winning start but then the away side won the following two games. Jack Wareing got the home side back on track with his 4-1 win over Daryn Gary in the fourth and Warwickshire’s men’s ‘A’ lead was restored in the fifth with a 4-2 win from Kevin Dowling over Karl Corcoran. A 4-1 win from Jamie Hughes against Lee Parish made it 4-2 at the break. The second half got underway in style with man of the match Jamie Atkins winning 4-0 against Mark Howard with a tremendous 33.97 average and winning legs of 14,14,14 and 17 darts. Further wins from Gareth Braham, Samuel Whittaker and Jenson Walker took the final score to 8-4 to the home team giving Warwickshire a commanding 25-11 victory for the weekend.

Prior to the latest fixtures Warwickshire were placed fourth, some twenty-one points short of second placed Yorkshire but after their big win they are now only ten points behind Yorkshire.

Life doesn’t get any easier for West Midlands in the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division of the UKDA National League as in their eighth of a scheduled ten fixtures they played hosts to divisional leaders London and lost 21-15 leaving them eighth in the division with the two teams just below them Derbyshire and Oxfordshire both having a game in hand on them.

The men’s teams didn’t do too badly as the ‘A’ side won 7-5 with Shaun Carroll their top player beating Nigel Fisher 4-1 with a 31.97 average. The men’s ‘B’ team were held to a 6-6 draw with Scott Baker the man of the match. Baker won 4-1 against Dean Buckland and averaged 30.72. However it was not a good weekend for the ladies as the ‘B’ lost 4-2, Gemma Barrett taking the match award for her 3-1 win over Carly Townsend and 19.59 average while the ‘A’ side slumped to a 6-0 defeat.

In the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League Black Country returned from their trip to Buckinghamshire with a 21-15 win as both ladies teams won 4-2 with Doreen Hunt taking the ‘B’ award for her 3-1 win over Lisa Webb and 18.65 average while for the ‘A’ team it was Tammy Chance who picked up the award for her similar 3-1 win over Suzanne Smith and 21.19 average. There were mixed fortunes for the men as Saturday’s ‘B’ team won 8-4 with their top player being Rich Bowen who won 3-2 against Mark Boardman with a 28.93 average, Jamie Barrowman getting the accolade for the ‘A’ team as he beat Clive Wilford 4-1 and averaged 27.92, the team finishing on the wrong side of the 7-5 result. Nevertheless Black Country moved up one place in the table to fifth with 170 points just nine short of second placed Gwent.

It was League Cup week in the Harborne and District League with the league’s top four teams all winning through to the next round. League leaders Northfield Conservative Club won handed their hosts Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club a 7-0 whitewash while second, third and fourth placed teams Copper Fox ‘R’, Copper Fox ‘M’ and Northfield Town in turn won 5-2 against Lion Bar, Smethwick Cricket Club and Weoley Castle WMC.  Other teams to go into the hat for the next round are Cock Inn who beat The Mill 4-3 and next to bottom of the table Avenue Social Club who were also 4-3 winners against bottom of the table Windsor. 

Finding the three treble twenties this week were Joe Fox, A Underwood (Cock Inn), A.Beagrie (The Mill), E.Simpson (Copper Fox ‘R’) and M.Perkins (Smethwick Cricket Club).

No change at the top of the Kings Norton League table with the top two teams Copper Fox and Northfield both winning 5-2. Copper Fox kept their two points lead over Northfield with a home win over Kings Norton Flights while Northfield won at Perfection. Third and fourth in the league Bournebrook and Thurlestone are both on twenty points, six short of the leaders after Bournebrook won 6-1 at Stirchley and Thurlestone beat their hosts Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club 7-0.

There were four maximums scored this week and they came from R.Waldron (Thurlestone), A.Chidley (Coppice), D.Murray (Bourneville) and J.Higgins (Rubeery Social Club).

A 6-2 home win over E57 has taken Longbridge United’s points score to thirty-five at the top of the South West Birmingham Clubs League and gives them a seven points lead over their nearest rivals West Heath CEM who had their fixture cancelled this week leaving them with a game in hand on the leaders.

Being as West Heath CEM didn’t play they have also lost top spot in the pre-match doubles league with Longbridge United taking over the number one position with 210 points which seven more than CEM who again have a game in hand.

A 5-4 win over Old Horns Lions was not enough for Bishop Vesey to continue sharing pole position with Beehive in division one of the Four Oaks and District League as Beehive won 7-2 playing at Highcroft Hotdogs giving them the same sixteen points as Vesey but with a two legs of average lead.

In the second division Walmley CSC Flights hold on to the top position with a 5-4 win at Charley’s flights which keeps them two points to the good on second placed Heartlands who won by the same 5-4 margin at The Rise Club.

Pint pot Flights were another team to win 5-4, their win over Rosey Mac’s keeping them top of division three with eighteen points, two more than second placed St Thomas Arrows who beat Sutton Sharks, again the score was 5-4.

Worthy of a note this week was the 160 break by Mark Felikin (The Rise Club).

Tyseley Bears have been ousted from their number one spot in the Camp Hill League as for the first time in six games they lost. Playing at home the Bears went down 4-3 to Wakefield Warriors who are now the only team in the league with a 100% win record, however second and third placed Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club and Tyseley Bears are both on the same ten points as the Warriors but they have played six games compared to Warriors five. Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club had a convincing 6-1 win at Roost who are without a point from their opening six games.

Game number nineteen in the Netherton Thursday Night League brought together the league’s top two teams when leaders Old Liberal Club hosted second placed and reigning champions Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’. Prior to the fixture four points was the differnece between the two teams but with a 7-2 win for Old Liberal Club they have now opened up a six points lead over both Bulls Head and their opponents. Bulls Head drew level on points and average with Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ when they won 5-4 at Spring Meadow Social.

Old Glasshouse lost 6-3 at Spring Meadow Pub but their S.Homer chalked up the week’s solitary 180.

It was cup final week in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League, the Black Country Windscreens Shield final which produced some very close games between Tamebridge and Three Horseshoes, but the resulting 6-1 margin went in favour of Tamebridge.for their superior finishing.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club added a 6-2 win at High Acres ‘C’ to their account in the Silver End Sunday Morning League to keep them two points ahead of second and third placed Old Star and Dudley Sports ‘A’. Old Star had a 5-3 win at Tenth Lock while Dudley Sports ‘A’ inflicted a similar 5-3 defeat on Church Tavern who were the only losers in the top four teams and as a result drop to fifth. Mount Pleasant take over fourth place with 22 points after their 6-2 win at Old Liberal Club, Dudley Sports ‘A’ and Mount pleasant have a game in hand on the top two teams.

After the second week of fixtures in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League only five of the starting line-up of seventeen teams are able to boast a 100% win record and they are Old Liberal Club ‘A’, Hollybush, Bird in Hand ‘E’, Five Ways ‘A’ and Fox Inn (Lye). Old Liberal Club ‘A’ have the better average and top the table after their recent 7-0 win at White Horse, their second consecutive such victory. Hollybush had a similar 7-0 win to put them second in the table with Bird in Hand ‘E’ and Five Ways ‘A’ level on average after the former won 5-2 at Wheatsheaf and the latter won by the same margin at Stourbridge FC. Fifth placed Fox Inn (Lye) were 4-3 winners at Mount Pleasant and trail the leaders by five legs of average.

Leaders of the Rowley Monday Night League Bell held on to their two points lead with a 7-2 win at Snooks while second placed Plough and Harrow won by the same scoreline at Huntingtree. Hawthorns are third on 22 points, six off the top after they won their home game against local rivals Hawthorns ‘B’ 8-1 which keeps them two points to the good on both Romsley Cricket Club and Whiteheath Tavern, Romsley with a 180 from D.Edwards winning 8-1 against White Swan while Whiteheath with maximums from both R.Hardman and M.Tibbetts won 7-2 against Tividale Sports.

Is any team going to stop Kings Head ’A’ in the West Midlands Men’s Super League as they took their unbeaten run to ten games when they won 5-0 at home against Landywood. Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ are hot on the heels of the leaders, they have only lost one of their ten games and in the latest won 4-1 at home against Corpus Christi. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club dropped one place to fourth after they lost 3-2 away to Kings Head ‘B’ and taking over in the number three slot is Dog and Partridge who won 3-2 at home against Staffordshire Knot.

A 3-0 win over Grace Angell followed by another 3-0 win against Sarah Barrett has seen Hackie Trott  move-up from fourth to top of the West Midlands Ladies Super League with 33 points from 11 games. Second placed Gemma Barrett lost ground as she went down 3-2 to Jodie Rowlands leaving her two points off the top and from 12 games.

The top two players in division one of the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League Scott Baker and Ian Stanton didn’t play this week but hold on to their positions. Dean Simmons-Fullwood replaced Darren Williams in third place with his 6-2 win over Andrew Jervis while Williams lost by the same result against Paul Price.

Kurt Wright made it 13 win and one draw from his 14 games in division two when he won 8-0 against Robert Harris to put him on 120 points, he has a 19 points lead plus a game in hand on his nearest rival Alan Melling who didn’t play this week.

Dave Thackeray marches on in division three making it fifteen straight wins when he beat Gareth Walsh 8-0 giving him a sixteen point’s advantage over second placed Thomas Hollowood who won 5-3 against Dave Akers.

There were wins for the top five teams in the singles division of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League this week, all of them making it three wins in their opening three games. Junction ‘B’ top the table on average after they won 7-0 at Milestone, Corpus Christi ‘A’, Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’, Woodfield and Hotshots are all on the same six points as the leaders but behind them on average.

Only four teams remain unbeaten in the doubles division, once again it’s Junction ‘B’ who lead the field on average following their latest 3-0 win at Milestone with Corpus Christi ‘A’, Golden Lion and Hotshots all on the same six points as the Junction ‘B’.
