Richard Gadd, the star and creator of Baby Reindeer, prefers not to discuss the real-life Martha Scott speculation.

Despite Gadd's request, fans of the popular Netflix show, which is based on his own experiences, have been eager to figure out the inspiration behind Jessica Gunning's stalker character since the show first aired in April.

The Scottish comedian has decided not to discuss the topic further. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Monday, May 13, Gadd expressed his disapproval of the investigation aspect surrounding his work. He stated that he released a public statement emphasizing his desire for the show to be appreciated as a form of art that people can enjoy. He referred to himself as Donny Dunn, a character that exists in a fictional world inspired by real events. Gadd encouraged viewers to immerse themselves in the world he has created and find enjoyment in it.

The actor expressed that if he wanted to reveal the real-life individuals, he would have made a documentary instead. He mentioned that he has previously talked about not wanting people to speculate, as addressing it would only fuel more speculation. He stated that he does not plan to comment on it further.

Gadd initially urged viewers to refrain from speculating about the real-life figures who served as inspiration for Martha and the predatory TV producer Darrien O’Connor, portrayed by Tom Goodman-Hill, in an Instagram Story dated April 22, according to Today.com.

It's important to remember that the people I care about, have collaborated with, and look up to (like Sean Foley) are being unfairly dragged into rumors. Let's avoid speculating about the identities of any real individuals. This is not the focus of our show.

Piers Morgan recently interviewed Fiona Harvey, the woman believed to be the inspiration for Martha in "Baby Reindeer," on his YouTube talk show Piers Morgan Uncensored on May 9th. Richard Gadd plays Donny and Jessica Gunning plays Martha in the popular show.

Harvey described Baby Reindeer as a fictional and exaggerated work during the interview. She also mentioned the possibility of taking legal action against Netflix and Gadd.

Since the show premiered, Harvey has faced abuse and death threats.

She expressed her shock and disgust at the situation, describing it as obscene and misogynistic. The death threats she received online and the harassing phone calls have been extremely distressing for her.

During a UK Parliament hearing on Wednesday, May 8, Benjamin King, who is Netflix’s head of policy in the UK, stated that the streaming platform had taken all necessary steps to protect the identities of those involved in the story. This was reported by Deadline.

Editor's P/S:

The article sheds light on the tension between artistic expression and the ethical implications of depicting real-life events. Richard Gadd, the creator of "Baby Reindeer," has faced scrutiny over the inspiration behind his characters, Martha Scott and Darrien O'Connor. Gadd's desire to protect the privacy of individuals involved and encourage viewers to appreciate the show as a work of art is understandable. However, the speculation and potential harm caused to those believed to be the inspiration raise concerns about the boundaries of artistic license.
