Pretty Things – SF Sorrow (LP 1968)

Pretty Things – SF Sorrow (LP Columbia – SCX 6306, December 20, 1968).
Producer – Norman Smith.
Genre : Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Rock Opera.

“ SF Sorrow ” is the fourth studio album by British band Pretty Things , recorded from 1967 to September 1968 at EMI studios in London and released on the Columbia Records label on December 20, 1968. Often cited as the first rock opera , this Pretty Things album was a turning point in their career. The band, who started out as an R&B group in their hometown of London, tested the psychedelic waters a year before 'SF Sorrow' with the single “Defecting Gray”. Without a doubt, this LP was a dive into the genre, complete with the first electronic experiments and a mind-blowing story. The album is considered one of rock's first conceptual albums, having been based on a short story by vocalist and guitarist Phil May. The album is structured as a musical cycle, telling the story of the protagonist, Sebastian F. Sorrow, and his experiences of love , war, tragedy, madness and the disillusionment of old age.
Information about this excellent band is already included on this blog.
