9 borewells, 3 open wells sealed for illegal water sale
Namakkal: The revenue and water resources department has sealed nine borewells and three open wells at Kaliyanur near Kumarapalayam in the district following a report by TOI on May 13 unfolding the illegal sale of water from these water bodies.
Acting on the report, officials from the groundwater division of the water resources department in Salem, led by Kumarapalayam tahsildar A Shanmugavel, inspected the area.

“Upon examining the pipelines, we discovered that water intended for agricultural purposes was being sold to local industries,” Shanmugavel said. The tahsildar issued notices to the owners of the borewells and open wells for further clarification.
