“The 2024 clearing is underway! Opening the Beartooth Highway is a huge undertaking.” –MDOT

The Montana Department of Transportation have been hard at work clearing snow from the Beartooth Highway south of Red Lodge to prepare for its May 24th opening day. Weather permitting, the Montana side of the highway typically opens on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and they are on track to hit that goal.

MDT is responsible for the highway to the Montana/Wyoming border, where the National Park Service takes over maintenance responsibilities through Wyoming, back into Montana and into Yellowstone Park.
