Characters You Wanted Back for a 2nd Episode

Lots of good characters, but here’s my list:

  1. Edgar Greenstreet (Murder on Madison Avenue)

  2. Wayne Metzger (Thicker Than Water)

  3. Kathleen Lane (Body Politic)

  4. Neil Fletcher (Death Stalks the Big Top)

  5. Marla/Kevin Bryce (If the Shoe Fits)

Am I the only one that thinks Anne Meara is really annoying regardless of what character she plays?

This is a great list! I'd add Binky Holborn (If The Frame Fits), Winnie Tupper Banner (Who Threw the Barbitals...), and Father Barnes (Seal of the Confessional). Binky and Father Barnes bc I love how they interact with Jess, and Winnie bc we needed one more episode with Amos after his retirement, and it should have had Jess and Seth visiting him and Winnie in Kentucky!

Good call - Father Barnes was a great character. He did have great chemistry with JBF and could have been in a few more episodes as each other’s confidant.

Much better Seth proxy than Ben Devlin imo.

Interestingly, Hunt Block and Jennifer Runyon were also in the bonkers "Murder, Plain and Simple" episode together. I wonder how that worked. Did the casting directors think they had chemistry and cast them together again? Or did one of them suggest the other for the part?

Yes - I remember that they both were in more than 1 episode together as different characters.

Also know that Barbara Babcock and Hallie Foote did the same in ‘Murder on Madison Avenue’ and ‘For Whom The Ball Tolls’. Now you got me thinking about others…

Definitely Edgar Greenstreet (and maybe we could take a trip to a store to see all the stuff he makes on sale) and Seth's friend Ben (the episode was called something like A Matter Of Honor...there's a voice in the back of my head claiming it was Track Of A Soldier, but I know that's wrong--Soldier was a puppy dog!)

David Tolliver from Lovers And Other Killers. I was so disappointed that storyline was never continued especially after the uncharacteristically ominous ending of the episode. He would have been great as an unsavory surprise in Jessica's life at a later time.

Yeah! And then he got cast as a completely different character. I'm wondering if the show asked him to reprise him, but he turned them down.

Rue McClanahan. I don't remember the name of the episode but it is in the earlier seasons, maybe 2nd. But I was so excited to see her, and she was so different than her Blanche Devereaux character. Plus, it was the episode that made me love MSW

It’s called “Murder Takes the Bus.” One of my favorites too!

That's the one!

Marigold Feeney (Who Put the Barbitols in Mrs. Fletcher's Chowder?). She seemed like she could've been a fun recurring character

Binky Holborn (played by the fabulous John De Lancie) was a delight! It was a shame he had to go to prison. I would’ve loved to have seen him in more episodes.

Andy Broom (a little night music) the one who thought that he reinvented the brothers karamazov lol.

Julian Fontaine in Tinker, Tailor, Liar, Thief." I think he really LIKED Jessica!!!

Great list! I’d like to add a couple of the leads from those season 6 episodes that were just narrated by Jessica. Bill Boyle (from Jack & Bill) and Lt. Ballinger (from Class Act) would be cool to see again, but, of course, in episodes that Jessica is actually in.

great list! side note oh my gosh Wayne Metzger was such a hunnnnkkk.

David Tolliver!

Definitely Neil Fletcher. I love Jackie Cooper!
