Nadodi Mannan

This action-adventure film which was released in 1958 marked legendary superstar MG Ramachandran’s debut as a director. The movie featured MGR in a double role as prince Marthandan and his lookalike Veerangan, who helps the former in reforming his kingdom Ratnapuri and save it from the enemies. Nadodi Mannan featured P Bhanumathi, MN Rajam, and B Saroja Devi, as the female leads.

Karnan

Director: BR Panthulu

Cast: Sivaji Ganesan, NT Rama Rao, Savitri Ganesan, Devika, MV Rajamma

The mythological drama, which was released in 1964, featured legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan in the titular role Karnan. The BR Panthulu directorial revolves around the life of the iconic character from epic Mahabharata, who was born to princess Kunti out of wedlock. Along with Sivaji Ganesan, Karnan featured a stellar star cast including NT Rama Rao, Savitri Ganesan, Devika, and others in the pivotal roles.

Ulagam Sutrum Valiban

MG Ramachandran donned the director’s hat yet again in 1973 for the science fiction film, Ulagam Sutrum Valiban. The legend also played the protagonist Murugan, an Indian scientist and his younger brother Raju in the movie. The sci-fi film narrated the story of Murugan, who gets kidnapped by his rival Bhairavan after he makes a significant discovery, and Raju, who sets out to save his brother.

Naan Vanangum Deivam

Director: K Somu

Cast: Sivaji Ganesan, Padmini, TR Ramachandran, Ragini, Nagesh

The movie, which is helmed by K Somu depicts the story of Gopal, a responsible brother who fixes his sister's wedding with Sundaram. However, things take a different turn after Sundaram's company gets shut, and Gopal gets fired from his job following a misunderstanding. Sivaji Ganesan appeared in the role of Sundaram in the movie, which featured TR Ramachandran as Gopal.

Allauddinum Arputha Vilakkum

The iconic Alauddin story from One Thousdand and One Nights was adapted into a film by the veteran filmmaker IV Sasi, in 1979. The Tamil-Malayalam bilingual featured Kamal Haasan as the titular character, Alauddin. Rajinikanth, on the other hand, appeared as the lead antagonist Kamaruddin. Jayabharathi appeared as Princess Roshni (based on Jasmine) in the film.
