2000 RG550 with rosewood fingerboard? Confused

I'm looking to buy used RG550 (from europe), which is black and has edge tremolo and rosewood fingerboard. But Ibanez wiki and catalogs only have maple fingerboards. Serial on the back of the neck leads to Fujigen 2000. Is the neck from some other 2000 MIJ RG, or did they have some with rosewood board too?

As one of the editors of the wiki, I'll just say it's not always perfect source of information. We try to make it as accurate as possible, but Ibanez rarely makes things clear. There area guitars not showing in catalogs, spot models, European specific models etc.

On top of that, the 500-series guitars were modded, part-swapped, and mixed into oblivion. As you say, best bet is the neck / neck pocket stamps, and that's also not guaranteed. Sometimes they're not there, or "wrong" (for example quite often RG560, 570 etc will have RG550 stamp on the neck because this is basically the same neck).

Thanks! Ibanez can be confusing sometimes :D

Also note, that if this is 505, they have thicker Wizard II profile necks - not everyone likes that.

RG270 with Wizard II was my first Ibanez back in the day, I don't remember the neck being very thick, as compared to strats for example

If you're an editor there is an error on this page https://ibanez.fandom.com/wiki/RG6HSHMTR

It says it has a rosewood fretboard with binding, but it's just a maple fretboard with no binding. Probably an error from the RG6HSHFX, something to add to that one might be that it has luminlay side dots too.

The headstock model stickers for the older MIJ models can be confusing as well. Most of the derivative models aren’t marked specifically. For example my RG550LTD is marked as a “RG550” on the back of the headstock.

RG550R

According to Ibanez wiki or catalog they did not make RG550R in 2000. I can't make out of pictures if the bridge is lo pro or original edge. It seems RG550R has lo pro variant.

Might be an RG550EX, has it got a mirror pickguard and fret markers?

I've got the sibling, the 570EX, it's a fenomenal guitar.

No it has the basic dots and black pickguard

I'mleaningtowards RG550R or a partscaster then, onlyway to be certain is to roll the die and purchase it. The model number will most likely be stamped in the neck pocket of the body.

Does it have the 3 piece maple/bubinga super wizard neck?

Maple only neck with all access neck joint

Could be an RG505 then?

Bridge is original edge, so it is not RG550R according to wiki.

So did they make some rosewood fingerboard RG550's in 2000?

Similar specs, but the year is off. I quess I'll just have to buy it, take the neck off and see for myself. At least it's Japanese made.

Can you post photos of the guitar and of the serial?
