Roman Reigns has been away from WWE since losing his title at WrestleMania 40. The Tribal Chief headlined both nights of the Premium Live Event in Philadelphia, which saw him lose his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship to Cody Rhodes on Night Two.

Since The Show of Shows, he has been away from the company and hasn't appeared on SmackDown. His absence is due to a pre-planned hiatus, which was common for Reigns during his 1,316-day title reign.

The former champion didn't work in all Premium Live Events and SmackDown shows during his near four-year title reign, but he was taking time off WWE instead. The same is the case this time, and fans expect him to return in one of the summer's Premium Live Events.

At the same time, Reigns has a busy filming schedule. He is working on a new project, Good Fortune, a heist comedy film. It will feature Keanu Reeves, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Seth Rogen, among others.

The Tribal Chief is expected to return to his wrestling duties once filming is over, while the movie is expected to be released in late 2024.

D-Von Dudley praises Roman Reigns, says he "carried WWE when others couldn't"

WWE and ECW legend D-Von Dudley recently had high praise for Roman Reigns. Dudley compared Reigns to the likes of fellow legends, like The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin, and said that the Tribal Chief carried the company when others couldn't.

During an interview with Screen Rant, the veteran said:

"I rank him in the same rank as Stone Cold Steve Austin, as The Rock...He carried the company when others couldn’t and he did it for a long period of time. Listen, at one point in time back in the 80s, you had people like Hogan, Bruno, Flair — they would have the tiles for almost three, four, or five years. Then, that type of thing went away, you wouldn’t have that, you were a champion for maybe six months and that was it. But Roman was able to captivate that and make it just like we did back in the day."

For the time being, Roman Reigns is being advertised for the final SmackDown before SummerSlam, set to take place on August 2.

Should he return at the Premium Live Event, his new storyline could be related to the newest version of The Bloodline, where Solo Sikoa has taken over, with Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa as newcomers.
