No easy way out, Syed Saddiq committed to clear name

No easy way out, Syed Saddiq committed to clear name Syed Saddiq.

PETALING JAYA – Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman reveals that there have been offers to clear his name from court cases.

He however rejected those offers as he was committed to going through the proper channels to show that he was not guilty.

"I have received offers (from those) who want to help me with the four charges I am facing in relation with the Bersatu Youth (Armada) funds, but I have rejected them since I do not intend to take the easy way out and am committed to clear my name using the right channel.

"If anything, I don't let it bother me too much, because I have put in mind since the beginning, that (I have) to be brave and fight for the truth," he added.

Syed Saddiq also clarified that if he wanted to take the easy way out, he would have received the offers even before being charged.

"Even while waiting for the court's verdict, there have been offers, but I do not want to use that way," he said, adding that he did not want to be one of the prominent individuals linked to corruption but had their cases dropped.

He said that it was not the right thing to do and in this issue, he needed to face it and clear his name.

"I put my full trust in the country's judgment system,” he said.

Last year, Syed Saddiq was charged with four counts of criminal breach of trust, misappropriation funds and money laundering and sentenced to seven years jail, two strokes of the cane and a RM10,000 fine.

However, the former youth and sports minister was granted a stay of execution pending his appeal at the Court of Appeal.

In the meantime, he has made it clear that the legal problem he faced was not affecting him in any bad ways.

He assured that he would continue to carry his responsibility as an MP because he was the representative of the people.
