Bedouin off Wasteland seems like the transitional song for the direct of Nell Ora Blu
Last year when I revisited Wasteland, I was blown away by Bedouin all of a sudden because it sounded very different from the rest of their songs. It reminded me of the soundtrack to Lucio Fulci's "The Beyond" which is one of his best movies. So when they announced that the new Uncle Acid album would be a nod to an italian horror movie that never existed, I was onboard.
A lot of people were shocked by this direction change but honestly I wasn't. Their lyrics and sound has always reminded of horror movies to some degree so I more or less expected them to do something like this if not fully score an actual horror movie.
What's really interesting is when I saw Uncle Acid in 2022 at Thalia Hall in Chicago, I ran into the band at the bar Dusek's next door and briefly chatted with Kevin and said they should score a horror movie sometime, and then low and behold Nell Ora Blu comes out. Not that I'm taking credit for it lol but that is on hell of a coincidence, but then again, at that same show, they had clips from Suspiria and other classic horror movies playing on the backdrop so I wouldn't say this transition is entirely unexpected.
I am so glad you brought this up because I completely agree with you. I was wondering why I feel Bedouin should be the last song on wasteland. Anyways...Majority of Wasteland has a track running through it underneath. Anyone notice how the very end of Nell' ora blu has a huge fuzzy guitar swell and then just shut off? hehehehe
Wasteland is probably my least played Acid album but I listen to Bedouin loads.
Direction of Nell' Ora Blu*
There’s def a few recurring samples as well. Did you notice the same church bell sample from wasteland during the opening track?
