After four years, audiences finally have their first look at Aldis Hodge as Alex Cross for the upcoming Prime Video series, Cross. Hodge will star as the titular detective and forensic psychologist made famous by James Patterson, who published his first Alex Cross book, Along Came a Spider, in 1993. Though a release date for the series has yet to be announced, Amazon did drop a teaser trailer today which gives viewers a glimpse of what’s to come.

The sleek and stylish trailer shows clips of Hodge as Alex Cross both at work, and at home with his family, as a mysterious female voice opens with the question, “Who are you?” There are snippets of police chases, a room on fire, and the sights and sounds of Washington D.C. as another voice proclaims Cross to be “Metro P.D.’s golden boy.” “You can call me Detective Alex Cross,” Hodge answers with a grin, before the trailer closes on him interrogating a suspect who tells Hodge that he’s not inside his head. “Oh, I’m definitely living rent free,” Hodge replies.

While the trailer revealed little about the possible plot of Cross, it did show one thing: Aldis Hodge looks ready to become Prime Video’s newest sensation following the success of Alan Ritchson and John Krasinski in shows like Reacher, and Jack Ryan. Hodge’s previous credits include Black Adam, The Invisible Man, Straight Outta Compton, and A Good Day to Die Hard. He can currently be seen in the romantic heist film, Marmalade, which debuted on February 9, 2024.

Cross Has Already Been Renewed for Season 2

Ahead of its first season, reports came out that Cross had already been renewed for a second season before its debut to the public. With the release of the teaser trailer today, that news was confirmed by Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, who said it was "an easy choice to bring Cross back for a second season." He praised creator and showrunner, Ben Watkins, saying that he and his team have "created something unique within the crime-thriller genre." Check out his full statement below.

"Bringing one of James Patterson’s most iconic literary characters to life for our global Prime Video customers was a dream come true, and we can’t wait for everyone to see Aldis Hodge’s dynamic performance as Cross. Ben Watkins and his team have created something unique within the crime-thriller genre that long-time fans and newcomers alike will all enjoy. And with over thirty novels written by Patterson featuring Alex Cross as his main protagonist, it was an easy choice to bring Cross back for a second season."

Cross is produced by Skydance and Paramount Television Studios, which are the same team behind Prime Video's other hit action show, Reacher. Sam Ernst, Jim Dunn, and Craig Siebels will serve as executive producers alongside Watkins, with James Patterson also involved as a producer through his James Patterson Entertainment company. Watkins says that getting an order for a second season before the first one even airs is a "huge vote of confidence" in the entire crew.

"I am thrilled to be embarking on another chapter of Cross. Moments like this don’t happen by accident. Getting a Season 2 pick-up before our first season even drops is a huge testament and vote of confidence in the amazing work that our crew, cast, directors, writers and production team have delivered thus far.

It’s also a direct result of the unwavering support bestowed upon us by Prime Video and our producing partners at Paramount TV Studios, Skydance and James Patterson Entertainment. I am grateful for all of the above and can’t wait to run it back even bigger and better."

Look for Cross to debut later this year on Prime Video.
