This is a community run by past transfers to the Ivy League, Stanford & other top 25-30 schools. We are here to help students share knowledge about the transfer process to top institutions. *Note we are not exclusive to top 25 universities, but rather use the name to help identify students pursuing admission to competitive institutions. Students interested in UVA, UNC, Michigan, Emory, NYU tier universities are all welcome here:
I might be going to a community college - is it even possible to transfer to a top25?
What roadmap should i take?
edit: my highschool gpa and stats are SHITTT so i want to do well in my freshman year then hopefully transfer to a good school
preface( i want to do compsci and don't live in a state that houses an ivy league)
Yes for sure! Although just letting you know - if you apply to transfer after your first year, colleges will heavily weigh your high school stats in their decision. If you apply after your second year, they barely consider high school at all.
that sucks because i thought they would look at the improvement i made in college! i'd at least want to go for sophmore to still have a chance to make friends in a university
Absolutely! Check out the sub wiki as a starting point
Yes, especially if you live in a state with a top 25 school(s) like Virginia, California, and Michigan. Take rigorous classes like Calculus, Physics, and Chemistry early in the process. Most schools don’t take community college students who haven’t completed Calculus I at minimum. Plan on getting an associate degree in your target major before transferring. Look any available guaranteed admission agreements and follow the advising sheet to increase your chances. Good luck!
Not everyone has STEM major as their goal, so though they'll have to take math and science courses to graduate, they're not important. Also, not everyone can start off with Calculus. If you can't get a good grade in Calculus, then it's obviously better to take it later on.
Yes 100% I was in the same situation as you: shit hs gpa, went to cc then got my gpa to a 3.8 and got into umich oos, it’s all possible! i’d recommend planning your courses carefully & start on your essays as early as you can :)
If ur hs gpa is shit then do two years first. I had a D on my transcript and several Cs in high school and i got waitlisted at an ivy after spending two years at a community college with a 4.0 :) and i got into a really really good state school as well. There’s lots of success stories for ppl like us
what ivy did you transfer to?
Definitely!
Yes! If you’re in-state that helps a lot for flagship state schools though.
If I am not wrong most of the people on this sub yesterday who were accepted to Stanford were from a CC !
Yeah i just got into brown and Berkeley my first year
