Quad City Steamwheelers (2-4) @ Sioux Falls Storm (1-5)

Spread: -1.5 (SF)
O/U: 91.5
mL: -102 (SF)

Kicking off at 7:05 p.m. CT, the Quad City Steamwheelers take on the Sioux Falls Storm. Favored by a point-and-a-half, the Storm look to win back-to-back games in front of a home crowd.

Following a 46-38 win a week ago, the Storm were able to come away with their first win of the season. IFL veteran Lorenzo Brown Jr. split duties with Billy Hall, as both quarterbacks found most of their success on the ground. Hall and Brown Jr. combined for five rushing touchdowns and 96 yards on 21 attempts. Through the air, however, the two were less effective, completing 8/13 passes for 113 yards and two interceptions. With an offense scoring 38.8 points per game, the addition of Lorenzo Brown Jr. could cause an uptick in scoring, as last week was Sioux Falls’ best offensive performance of the season.

Entering as road underdogs in Week Nine, the Steamwheelers come into this game having lost four of their last five. However, in Week One of the season, the Steamwheelers came away with an overtime victory against the Storm. Quad City also comes into the week having played two quarterbacks last week: Judd Erickson and Mike Irwin. After scoring 53 points against Iowa, their weekly average, however, defensively, the Steamwheelers surrender 48 points per game on average. Only San Antonio (57.5) and Tucson (48.4) allow more points per game.

Oddsmakers have the over-under line set at 91.5 points. Sioux Falls averages 38.7 points per game, while Quad City averages 44.2 points per game. If both teams score their average, the total would be 82.9, making 91.5 steeper than both teams can reach on average.

San Diego Strike Force (4-2) @ Vegas Knight Hawks (6-0)

Spread: -12.5 (VEG)
O/U: 98
mL: N/A

Wrapping up the Friday night double-header, the San Diego Strike Force takes on the undefeated Vegas Knight Hawks. The Strike Force enters this week battle-tested, as they face off against the top team Western Conference for three of the last four weeks. Oddsmakers have the Knight Hawks favored by 12.5 points in this matchup.

As home favorites, the Knight Hawks come into this week with one of the top quarterbacks in the league in Ja’Rome Johnson. Through six games, Johnson has a combined 33 touchdowns and over 1,000 total yards. As a dual-threat quarterback, he can beat defenses with his arm and legs. Vegas has one of the highest-scoring offenses in the league, averaging 52.5 points per game. They’re also one of the best defenses, holding opponents to just 37.5 points per game. To continue their six-game win streak, both sides of the ball must continue what’s brought them to this point.

Sporting an offense that scores nearly 50 points per game, the Strike Force is one of the top-scoring offenses in the league. Quarterback Nate Davis has thrown for 24 touchdowns and nearly 1,000 yards in six games, making his case for one of the best pure-passers in the league. Defensively, San Diego is one of the top teams at holding opponents to short yardage, averaging 194.8 yards per game to opposing offenses. Stacked up against the top team in the league, both sides of the ball must perform at their highest to come away with the double-digit upset in Week Nine.

This game’s over-under is the highest of the week, as the line is set at 98 points. Combining for an average of 101.5 points between the two teams, the likelihood of this game reaching the over is probable.

Jacksonville Sharks (1-5) @ Frisco Fighters (5-1)

Spread: -17 (FRI)
O/U: 87
mL: N/A

The Jacksonville Sharks won their first-ever IFL game last week, as they enter the ring with a tough opponent in the Frisco Fighters. With both teams owning the inverse record of each other, oddsmakers have Frisco winning this game convincingly, favoring them by 17 points.

Frisco split their series with San Antonio in Week Six and Seven, giving them their first loss of the season. Frisco has been one of the top teams in the league, averaging 51.3 points offensively, while allowing just 41.7 points defensively. If each game looked solely at averages, the Fighters would win each of their games by 10 points. With a spread of 17 points, the oddsmakers have Frisco winning by a margin even greater.

Following their first win, the Sharks head into hostile territory, as they face off against one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Through six games, the Sharks average 32.5 points per game, ranking them last in the league in average points scored. Defensively, they’re one of the more lenient teams, allowing 45.5 points per game to opponents. With a schedule that’s featured tough opponents from the start, that trend continues with a battle against the Fighters in Week Nine.

Featuring two teams on different sides of the scoring spectrum, the over-under line is set at 87 points. Both teams combine for an average of 83.8 points offensively each week, so one side of this battle must carry extra weight for the over to hit.

Tulsa Oilers (3-3) @ Green Bay Blizzard (4-2)

Spread: -7.5 (GB)
O/U: 84.5
mL: GB -265

With both teams entering Week Nine after a loss the week before, both teams are looking to turn the tide with a win. Green Bay is favored by seven-and-a-half points, as the oddsmakers expect a close game between Eastern Conference foes.

The Green Bay Blizzard come into this week after their four-game winning streak was snapped a week ago. With an offense that scores fewer than 40 points per game, the part of this team that shines brightest is their defense. Through six games, Green Bay’s defense has allowed the fewest points in the league with just 34.3 points per game on average. Going against a team that put up 72 points a couple of weeks ago, this defense must continue to play how they have all season to ensure a win of more than seven points.

Losing two of their last three games, the Tulsa Oilers enter Week Nine looking to upset Green Bay at home. Offensively, the Oilers rank directly down the middle, averaging 44.7 points per game. Defensively, their average point total allowed is exactly the same: 44.7 points. With an offense and defense that average the same amount per week, their 3-3 record adds up.

Both teams combine for an average of 83.5 points per game, as the over-under line is set just one point higher. If both sides play their average game, reaching 84.5 points appears to be achievable.

Massachusetts Pirates (5-1) @ Iowa Barnstormers (1-5)

Spread: -10.5 (MASS)
O/U: 82
mL: N/A

Kicking off the night slate of games on Saturday, the Massachusetts Pirates take on the Iowa Barnstormers. The Pirates had a bye last week, while Iowa rang the victory bell for the first time this season. In their Week Nine matchup, Massachusetts is favored by 10.5 points. The last time these two teams faced off, the Pirates won convincingly by a score of 54-29.

After a Week Eight bye for the Pirates, Massachusetts enters the week well-rested against a team with momentum following their first win of the season. With question marks surrounding the quarterback position, the Pirates will start either Alejandro Bennifield or Connor Degenhardt, two quarterbacks who have led the Pirates to victory when called upon. Massachusetts’ offense averages 43.2 points per game, while their defense is one of the most stout units in the league. Defensively, the Pirates allow an average of 37.2 points per game, only trailing Green Bay (34.3) as the least scored-on team in the IFL. On top of not surrendering many points, the Pirates clamp down on opposing offenses, allowing just 188.8 yards per game, also ranking second-best in the league.

Following a thrilling victory last week, the Barnstormers come into the week with momentum. However, as home underdogs, Iowa must recreate a performance similar to last week if they expect to come away with the upset. As an offensive unit, the Barnstormers score an average of 36.5 points per week, allowing 45 points per week to opposing offenses. Having lost the last time these two teams met, there’s a possibility Iowa comes into this week with something to prove. That will need to be the case for Iowa to pull off the upset in Week Nine.

The oddsmakers set this week’s over-under line at 82 points, the lowest total of the week. Both teams combine for an average of 79.7 points, making this an achievable line for the Eastern Conference battle.

San Antonio Gunslingers (2-4) @ Duke City Gladiators (0-5)

Spread: -6.5 (SA)
O/U: 93.5
mL: SA -245

Continuing the Saturday night action, the San Antonio Gunslingers take on the Duke City Gladiators. Duke City enters the week in search of their first win of the season, while San Antonio had a two-game winning streak spoiled last week. The Gunslingers are favored in this matchup by six-and-a-half points, giving the Gunslingers an expected touchdown advantage.

After a two-game winning streak, the Gunslingers lost a close game with the Fighters in Week Eight. Through their first six games in the IFL, San Antonio sports the highest-scoring offense in the league, featuring the most efficient-scoring passer in Sam Castronova. So far this season, San Antonio averages a whopping 54.3 points per week offensively. However, on the other side of the ball, they’re scored on about as frequently. In fact, they’re scored on more frequently, allowing 57.5 points per game to opposing offenses.

While Duke City continues the journey for their first win of the season, their lack of offensive production has been a catalyst to their winless start. Through five games, the Gladiators score an average of 34.2 points per game, only trailing the Jacksonville Sharks (32.5). Defensively, however, Duke City surrenders 43.8 points per game to their opponents. To come away with the upset this week, Duke City must find ways to keep up with the high-scoring Gunslingers.

The oddsmakers have the over-under line set at 93.5, setting this game up to be the second-highest-scoring game of the week. Both teams combine for 88.5 points offensively, meaning extra points must hit the board for this over to hit.

Bay Area Panthers (5-1) @ Northern Arizona Wranglers (4-2)

Spread: -3 (BAY)
O/U: 89.5
mL: BAY -155

In the final slate of games on Saturday night, the Bay Area Panthers head to Prescott Valley to take on the Northern Arizona Wranglers in a Western Conference battle. Both teams come into the week having lost the week prior. With future Western Conference seeding on the line, both sides look to make Week Nine a victorious one. After losing to Vegas a week ago, the Panthers are favored this week by a field goal.

In a battle against some of the top teams in the Western Conference, the Panthers look to turn around this week against Northern Arizona. With an offense featuring quarterbacks Felix Harper and Daquan Neal, the Panthers score an average of 44.7 points per week. Their defense, however, ranks higher, allowing just 40 points per game— even after the 62-point performance surrendered to Vegas last week. To get back to the win column in Week Nine, the Panthers’ defense will need a performance unlike one from a week ago.

After losing in Week One, the Wranglers have won four of their last five games, most recently losing to San Diego in Week Eight. Their offense averages 45.5 points per game, while defensively, they allow 43.2 points per game. Statistically, the Wranglers score just enough to come away with victories, averaging just over two points scored per week than they allow. Against one of the top teams in the league in Bay Area, the Wranglers must keep the Panthers offense at bay to come away with the upset in front of a home crowd.

Combining for 90.2 points between the two teams, the over-under line of 89.5 is about as close of a line as the oddsmakers could’ve made. Statistically, this line is achievable if both teams play the way they have all season.

Arizona Rattlers (3-3) @ Tucson Sugar Skulls (1-4)

Spread: -6.5 (ARI)
O/U: 87.5
mL: ARI -250

In Saturday night’s final matchup, the Arizona Rattlers take on the Tucson Sugar Skulls. Arizona comes into the week as road favorites, favored by just short of a touchdown and an extra point.

Following a win in their last game, before Week Eight’s bye, the Arizona Rattlers come into this game rested. Quarterback Dalton Sneed returned in their last game, completing 18/26 passes for 176 yards, two touchdowns, and another pair of touchdowns on the ground. In games featuring Sneed as the quarterback for Arizona, their offense averages 53 points per game, which would rank second in the league. Defensively, they allow nearly 45 points per game, ranking them in the middle of the league, statistically.

As the home team, the Tucson Sugar Skulls come into Week Nine also having a bye week prior. Without rookie quarterback Mylik Mitchell, the Sugar Skulls’ offense has been without a spark. In games with Mitchell, Tucson scores an average of 45 points. Without Mitchell, Tucson scores an average of 33.5 points per game. Defensively, the Sugar Skulls only trail San Antonio as the most scored-on team in the league, allowing an average of 48.4 points per game to opposing offenses. With Mylik Mitchell potentially returning to action in Week Nine, he gives the offense a much-needed boost.

Oddsmakers set the over-under line at 87.5, predicting this as one of the lower-scoring games of the week. Both teams combine for 87.7 points offensively on average, making both the over and the under achievable.
