Welcome
Today is the feast of Pentecost.
The fulfilment of God’s promises, a celebration of unity-in-diversity.
Today we mark the beginning of the Church,
a community of people called by God from all corners of the world,
from all tongues ever spoken, from all colours of the human race.
Male and female, young and old called at the beginning of time,
at the beginning of life at the beginning of history. Called by God to be one.

Confession
Lord God, sometimes we try to limit the work of the Spirit in our lives.
We hold back from going with the flow.
We ban astonishment from our lives.
We have our own agenda and our own concerns.
We limit you to our own poor understanding.
Forgive, us Lord; open our hearts and minds to you.
[Silence]On Pentecost the Holy Spirit enabled people to hear in their own language,
so today we can feel and hear and know your forgiveness, Lord, deep in our hearts and souls.
We thank you, Lord God.

Prayer of the Week
Living God, you sent the Holy Spirit to breathe life into your church.
Let us no longer be captives to fear, but messengers of your saving love,
so that all may be reconciled to you.
Let your Spirit of truth abide with us so that we may live in hope,
grow in faith, and keep your commandments of love;
in the name of the Risen Christ who promised and sent the empowering Spirit.

The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: ‘Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs – we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!’ 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, ‘What does this mean?’
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, ‘They have had too much wine.,

I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,

18 Even on my servants, both men and women,

The Work of the Holy Spirit
26 ‘When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. 27And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.

The Thanksgiving
Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.
Through your goodness we have this bread to offer,
which earth has given and human hands have made.

Voter Registration Pilot
The work we did on voter registration last Sunday (12 May 2024) was very useful. The results of our informal ‘voter registration ballot’ were:
56 people already registered to vote;
5 people were not eligible to vote;
11 people were not currently registered to vote but promised to do so.
If you are not registered to vote, we can help you with the registration process. We shall try to have a lap-top available after the Sunday morning service to help you to register on line. You will need to bring your national insurance number with you to be able to register on line. Please speak to Robin or Pat Kyd, or any of the stewards, if you would like help with registering. We should like to have everyone who is eligible to vote registered well before the up-coming general election.

Heartwarming Day Service at MK Rose, Campbell Park
6.00 pm Sunday, 26 May 2024
You are invited to a special service at the Heartwarming Day Pillar at the Milton Keynes Rose in Campbell Park for a service to celebrate Aldersgate Sunday, 26 May, when John Wesley felt his heart strangely warmed!
The service will begin at 6.00 pm and a choir will sing for 15 minutes beforehand. The Salvation Army Band will accompany the singing.
The preacher will be Revd Barry Lotz.

Food donations for Milton Keynes Foodbank
Cornerstone is a collection point for food donations for the Milton Keynes Foodbank. There is a cupboard in Reception where you can leave your donations at any time when the building is open. The cupboard is now easier to fins, as it is where the printer used to be against the wall below the window into the church office.

Palestinian Embroidery Workshop
2.00–5.00 pm Sunday, 26 May 2024 in the Guildhall
Nawal Slemiah, founder and director of the Women in Hebron cooperative, is visiting Milton Keynes and will be holding this tatreez embroidery workshop.
Everyone is welcome to come to learn some simple stitches, and to maybe make a bookmark or something similar. There will also be the handicrafts from the cooperative available for sale.
Women in Hebron is a cooperative that seeks to economically empower Palestinian women and their families, as well as encouraging the passing down of Palestinian culture and traditional handicraft products to younger generations. See https://womeninhebron.com/.
