HYDE PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A high school student died in a crash in Hyde Park Wednesday. The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office has not released the student’s name at this time.

On Wednesday, around noon, law enforcement responded to a crash on South Quaker Lane in Hyde Park. Upon arrival, Hyde Park Police found there were four people in the car, with the driver and passenger appearing to have life-threatening injuries, and the two rear passengers appearing to have non-life-threatening injuries.

All four people were taken to local hospitals, where the driver succumbed to their injuries. The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and Hyde Park Police conducted a preliminary investigation and said the car was driving southbound when the driver lost control and struck a utility pole.

Deputies say a primary factor appears to be unsafe speed. Deputies also say all four occupants were students at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School (FDR) and BOCES in the Town of Hyde Park. They were believed to be driving from FDR to BOCES.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
