Thane: NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad has challenged the Thane police to justify restraining orders slapped on a party activist from Mumbra ahead of the election days despite him not having a single criminal case registered against him.
Awhad was addressing the media, where he exhibited the notice which said the person could be a threat to the peace and law and order following which he was being restrained from entering the jurisdiction of Mumbra city police.
Awhad alleged this was a violation of the constitution wherein a resident was deprived of his rights as a citizen.
“The party worker is actively working in campaigning and also doesn’t even have a criminal record let alone a NC with the police. I am yet to comprehend what is the logic behind slapping such restraining orders. It is apparent the police is working under political pressure. We are in the process of writing to the district collector seeking clarity in the matter and also to the election commission seeking a justification,” said Awhad while talking to the media.
