Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon continued his excellent season by scoring against Manchester United on Wednesday night.

Earlier this week, the Daily Star reported that Gordon was on Liverpool's radar as we head toward the summer transfer window after an impressive campaign at St James' Park. The left-sided winger moved to the North East in January 2023 from Everton and has moved from strength to strength since.

This season has been a breakout one for the England international, who has now bagged 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. His latest goal came on Wednesday night as he slid home in front of the Stretford End to draw Newcastle level against United.

As he wheeled away in celebration, Gordon could be spotted shushing the home supporters who had been giving him stick for being from Liverpool before tugging at his shirt. Despite having represented the Blues, it is believed the 23-year-old grew up a supporter of the Reds.

In a recent interview with The Overlap, Gordon was asked by Gary Neville to name his footballing icon growing up. He responded: "Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up.

"Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player." While he may wish to follow in the footsteps of his footballing idol one day, incoming manager Arne Slot may have to pay big money to bring him to Anfield.

Gordon's current contract at St James' Park is set to expire in 2026 and it is understood a bid of £100m would need to be made to bring him to the red half of the city.
